SnailsYeast Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 My Dobyns fury rod recently had the top of the rod break. i lost two guides and about four inches of the actual rod blank. Where should i go to get this fixed without having to replace the whole rod? Quote

Jersey has some good rod builders, but that repair (mending the blank up high near the tip) while doable is one of the more tricky ones, and the rod won't be the same. You are changing the action of the tip and adding some weight up high. On a $100 stick, I'd start from scratch. You can add a new tip to the remaining portion, and reposition some of the guides, but that will leave you with a much stiffer, not to mention shorter rod. 1 1 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted October 14, 2018 Super User Posted October 14, 2018 Not worth the effort and the follow on disappointment. Either send it back to dobyns for a replacement or use it for your lure retriever 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Such a break can be repaired with little to no perceptible change in performance but it's not a diy or novice project. Value wise, I would charge $30 for a job like that. Putting a tip on the remaining section is pointless imo. 1 Quote

I've done many repairs of this type and have never had a complaint on the action or power of the rod after repair. I even repaired a fly rod that needed both internal spigot and external sleeve, and the CCS numbers did not change from when the blank was new. Quote

Maybe DSG but I doubt it, Quote
jbrew73 Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 If you don’t have someone local to fix it you could save the rod until you need another rod or 2 repaired and ship it to DVT. With shipping 2 ways and the repair you’d have about $90 in it. Not worth it. Id probably just stick a tip on it and give it to a local kid. 1 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted October 15, 2018 Super User Posted October 15, 2018 They have a no question warranty program. Call and ask, most of the time you only send in the bottom section and pay the portion of warranty. Most times that's 70 bucks plus shipping, better off just trashing it. They may do an upgrade and give you the rod value. That may be worth it. Quote
SnailsYeast Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 Oops, sorry but I forgot to mention that I still have the piece of the blank that broke off with the tiptop guide. If that makes it easier for anyone. Quote
