Didn't know where else to post this. Hope this is OK.

I'm tired of cold pizza or PB&J sandwiches between casts. Anybody got some fresh ideas on some good grub that's easy to haul and easy to fix?

One guy mentioned in one of the articles on this site that he packs hot dogs in boiling water inside a thermos so that several hours later he's got a hot option for lunch.

Any other ideas?

I read somewhere(I think here) that a guy boiled water then pours it into a thermos and then puts in hot dogs. When it's time to eat you have a nice hot meal. I have done this with brats and it worked very well for me. Just make sure to take buns and ketchup. It definately makes for a nice change of pace from pb&j's and granola bars.

I guess it's just a southern thing but, SARDINES AND VIENNA WIENERS!!!! That is posibly the best thing ever made or whatever. Oh and don't forget the saltines!

I used to eat this stuff on camping trips growing up in KY. Don't think I tried the Saltines. Maybe that helps.   :o

i usually stop by a gas station and get a sub. if you keep it cold they are still just as good by the time you get ready to eat. I read somewhere that KVD makes a monstrous sandwich with black forrest ham and all kinds of stuff haha

I like to take a 10 minute break and just sit down and eat.  When I is warm weather I eat a sandwich and some fruit.  When it is cold, I take a small thermos of vegetable soup or chili with some crackers.  A quick hot meal really hits the spot on a cold day.

To keep the food hot I boil water and put in the thermos and seal it up for 30 minutes.  I then boil the soup or chili and put it in the thermos.  5 or 6 hours later it is still nice and hot.

He needs to start making two of those sandwiches. That boy's way too thin. Someday he's gonna connect on one of those big hawgs and it's gonna reel HIM in.

Ketchup on a brat? Yep, that's my steak sause(LOL)! I even put it on steak. I get teased on this allot. I just don't like many other sauces. Onece in a while bbq sauce but other than that ketchup. And it comes in little packets that are easy to carry in my lunchbox. i have also been told I am weird, not an insult, I know I am different than most. I do allot of stuff thats "not the right way to do that".

I do fruit and water in hot weather... usually an apple or two and a bannana... oh and some gatorade of some kind...  cold weather, its a thermos of strong coffee and sandwiches.

and yes, i stop for 10 min. or so and actually eat.  it gives me a break and I can think about what has been happening on the lake that morning.

My first choice is fried or broiled chicken legs. Good tasting with a handle so it is easy to eat. After that cheese crackers or oreo's. Last chpice is a sub they get soggy in the cooler.

Pistachios

I am not a fan of eating things on the water that have to be done with your hands.  For one, hopefully they have fish all over them.  Secondly, I need my hands to fish.

Now sometimes I do pack a sandwich for the ride home.

Pack of pb crackers, candy bar, sandwich, and water, gatorade, coke. Oh, Grizzly wintergreen used to be Skoal $$$$. Don't have time for much else. "10 minute break", I would go nuts.

Almost always a sandwich, some turkey, ham, beef or combination. An apple goes great for snacks and a can of Grizzly Wintergreen as already mentioned. I only chew when I'm fishing, not sure why, just goes well.

Oh yeah, pepsi or Heineken.

What goes best on a hot dog?  For me it's mustard and onions.  The worst is ketchup and relish.

Several caffeine-free Diet Cokes, apples, and a Clif bar.  I don't stop to eat since my fishing time is so limited.

I have never taken beer with me since I feel loopy after even one.

I remember fishing with my Dad and he would always insist on bringing lunch.  He would open a can of those Vienna (pronounced "vy-ee'nie") sausages packed in gelatin, rinse the gelatin off in the lake, then dump them out on the boat seat where he had just had the container of nightcrawlers.  I still just about gag at the thought.

I usually take a can of peanuts and munch on them.
