I know some people even pros that use EWG instead on straight shank because the straight shank comes through the bait when pulling in and out of cover. Your thoughts? 2. The time I did punch I rigged my bait like I TXrig, I run the eye of hook with the knot into the bait. Problem was that 1oz weight kept pushing down on my bait messing it all up. Should I rig it with the hook eye out so the weight can rest om it? Gonna flip a SK structure bug, and is there anything I should know about flipping lilies? Ex-Heavy 7'5" rod w 60lb braid, thats the heaviest line I have right now. Thanks Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Lily pads don't usually require punching unless they have something else like hydrilla mixed in with them. I always use ewg super line hooks for most heavy cover applications. One thing I do when using the heavier weighs is use two bobber stops. One above the weight as usual and one below the weight. In between the weight and the soft plastic. Works great for me. 1 Quote

Owner 4X Jungle Flipping Hook, be sure you pull the lure down far enough that the keeper exposed. I find Top Brass Tackle Peg-It system works better than bobber stops. Cut the little knob off pull it all the way up. Quote
RHuff Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I fish lilly pads in WV a lot and have found to have much better success when flipping a jig and trailer in as opposed to just a texas rigged plastic. I only throw a texas rig weedless if the grass or whatever is just so thick that it is impossible to get a jig in. You may want to consider giving a punch rig a try with a skirt around a texas rig. I think the extra bulkiness of the skirt helps the bass see the bait falling through the stem pads. Let me know how it goes. Good luck. 1 Quote

Cut the little knob off pull it all the way up. This with a tungsten weight should be sold as the punch rig starter pack. I will throw a skirt on if it gets really thick and scummy. You have the correct tackle to go to battle. I love throwing topwater around pads, but some days you gotta roll up your sleeves and go get them. 1 Quote

It's what I have confidence in and my hookup ratio is great, seems my only misses are short strikers where I have half a bait missing. I like to have a few presentations handy if I'm punching. 1. Gambler BB cricket or Baby D Bomb. I like to use these as search tools, but dont let the size fool you. 3 of my biggest 5 fish came on a cricket. 2. Punch skirt with a creature bait. I prefer a Gambler Why Not, D Bomb, Double Wide Beaver, Rage Menace. 3. last but not least, a Gambler Ugly Otter. I have a quick change skirt handy and will skirt it and unskirt it throughout the day. Some days they want the skirt, other days they dont. As far as colors go. I stick to black blue. junebug, and green pumpkin flash. 2 Quote

Its good for a quick change, as their name says, but they don't have the same bulk as a 55 strand punch skirt as the ones Mike makes at Siebert Outdoors. I've also had a couple skirts from Gambler that have had strands cut or stacked all to one side, but this is a known quality control issue with this product. 1 1 Quote

Alright, it’s exactly what I was thinking it was. I’ve got some from SK. For some reason I never thought of taking the plastic off the hook to skirt/in skirt it. I’ve been cutting and retying.
