From Wxrisk.com at 2:45 PM on Tuesday, October 9th:

ALERT !!! MICHAEL IS BOMBING OUT... that means he is under going rapid intensification ** THIS HAS MAJOR IMPLICATIONS for eastern SC / eastern NC / southeast VA and lower VA eastern shore !! Don't get caught watching the pant dry...

With hurricane Florence, much of North Carolina got slammed as did portions of South Carolina. But because of the track of Florence Hampton Roads /Southeast Virginia did not see much of anything even though a lot of the TV foreasters and other weather sources went crazyover the track of Florence. It is important to keep in mind that WxRisk was 1 of 2 sources which said that Florence was not going to be a big deal for Hampton roads.

RE: MICHAEL -- With this even, Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina ARE going to see significant impact of Michael. Because the hurricane is intensifying as is approaching the Florida coast. If it turns to the northeast, as it is likely to do, and stayed near the coast, Michael is only going to weaken to a certain degree. This means there will be winds on the coast that could gusts up to 60 to 70mph for Northeast North Carolina and for Hampton Roads. It also means increased coastal flooding risks storm tides and enhanced rainfall.

I will have more on this later with a special focus on North Carolina especially Northeast North Carolina and southeast third of Virginia as well as the lower Virginia eastern shore. But again my main point is for Southeast Virginia which missed the brunt of Florence and did not get the rain or the tornadoes that Central Virginia did. Michael is likely bring much more significant weather conditions for Southeast Virginia on Thursday.

Well, lets think of the Florida gulf coast first. Last I checked at 8:30 , it had 145 mph winds, with gusts to 165. They predict some areas will get 14 ft storm surge. At St George island (where I have fished before) in that area some foolish folks have chosen to stay ( the island is only 10 feet above sea level ). The Weather channel says this is the worst hurricane to hit the florida gulf coast since recorded weather history started in 1851.

Im in the jax. area and we are getting winds 20-30 now from it with higher gusts and the storm is around 200 miles to the center from here.

These folks on the gulf need our prayers and support !!!

Here is the 12 PM CDT position update for #Michael: Eyewall of Michael coming ashore along the coast of the Florida Panhandle between St. Vincent Island and Panama City. Do not venture out into the eye when it passes!

If I read it right , Michael was the third most intense landfalling hurricane to hit the U.S in recorded history, based on the pressure of 919. Stronger than Andrew or Katrina.

Hopefully, it will diminish rapidly before it gets to the Carolinas and virginia.

Weatherman on TV said Georgia had a Cat. 1 hurricane go through the state for the first time.

Very strong and powerful storm giving people little chance to evacuate and get their house and businesses ready.

We could have 30 to 50 MPH winds in Virginia by the time it arrives and then heads out to sea over Norfolk.

I was riveted to the live feed of The Weather Channel as Michael made

landfall. Although some of the storm chaser feeds were far more telling

than TWC's. The videos of the Apalachicola river rising over the hours

was fascinating.

The damage/destruction is devastating and my heart goes out to all

those who, for what ever reason, stayed behind. Mexico Beach is a

disaster area. I hope we hear good news as to the lives of those who

stayed behind there. I cannot imagine the horror of those who endured.

As for my area of Virginia, yes, we expect far more from Michael than

we ever did from Florence. Hopefully those already suffering down in

NC will be spared more flood waters, though that's unknown because

lots of rain will be dumped.

I saw a video of a weatherman saying he was being evacuated and a dude drove right behind him in a Jon boat with a tiller steer

Farmville area got pounded tonight. Many trees down. (Son in college out that way)

We're seeing heavy rains and moderate winds between Williamsburg and Newport News.

Tornado warning expired at 9pm, so that's good. Seems to be winding down somewhat,

though won't take eyes off the phone for a few more hours.

We lost power in Bon Air, by Bosher's Dam at 8 PM last night and our generator has us up and running.

We are the only house in the area with power.

450,000 outages in the greater area, with 25,000 in City of Richmond.

Was going to drive to meet a contractor at house we are renovating but I have no idea if I can get out of neighborhood. Of the four ways out, two flood and we have trees all over the place that could be blocking the roads.

Hope Lake Chesdin does not get clobbered as we have a tournament on Saturday (tomorrow). Will be interesting to see the height and color of the water and if there are debris floating around. Last time we tried to have a tournament on Chesdin the State Police closed the road to the ramp due to high water.  No idea if we have high water on River Road but will find out, soon.

Was pretty rough, harrowing night. Power went out around 11:20, winds

howled, took down a huge pine in my back yard. That pine took down a

dead pine and sheared the branches off of two other trees before falling

into my neighbor's fence.

A few doors down from us had a tree fall on their house, thankfully nobody

was in that room. Heard many booms and crashes while I stood on our

covered porch in front until about 1:20AM when the winds finally died down.

Generator running today. Fortunately we have internet. Over 15,000 w/o

power in York County.

Glad you're mostly OK

Hope your area can recover quickly.

At least it's not 30 below zero . . . .

No damage to my house or the neighborhood other than some fallen branches.  It was a crazy storm though and it blew in fast and stayed pretty strong while it lasted.  All the schools are closed today too because i think a lot lost power, we were lucky it only flickered a few times and thats about it.  Beautiful day out there now though, blue skies and temps more what it should be in mid october.

Hopefully i can get out fishing tomorrow or sunday but i have a feeling the fishing is gonna be tough.

Big trees down in my Bon Air neighborhood.

Cherokee Road closed by my house; other streets blocked with fallen trees; power is out due to a big tree taking down a power pole and lines at the intersection of Cherokee and Saratoga Roads.

But overall, not much damage to businesses or homes.

Glad to hear......

Sadly, I heard from a friend in the panhandle who works for Walton County EMS. His place is a couple miles in from where the hurricane made landfall. Trees down, power is out, road is block, house is gone. All he has left is the slab where everything he once had was.

Count your blessings.

Fly, Lake Chesdin is a disaster.

High and muddy.

5.89 pounds won our club tournament on Saturday.

I did not fish as I have an inner ear infection and the doctor told me to stay home as I could fall out of the boat.

The ramps at Seven Springs are under water.

I think we will have to give it a week to calm down.

i went out to diascund and it was as high as i have ever seen it.  I am not sure if there was a tourney there or not but there were a lot of boats.  I know i only caught a couple small ones that were chasing baitfish way back up one of the creek arms and lost a monster bowfin right at the kayak.

Yes Hurricane Micheal was impressive. I lived through Hurricane Andrew and still remember all the damage it caused. I read Hurricane Micheal did lots of destruction in many cities in the Panhandle such as Mexico Beach, Panama City,Marianna, etc. Those people where not prepared for a hurricane and it was the first time those cities saw the raw power of a Category 4 Hurricane. Many are saying Hurricane Micheal hit the panhandle worse than Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida. It will be several months if not years before the panhandle is 100% again that is for sure.

X2.

Let's all hope that the missing are safe somewhere and they will contact their loved ones or the authorities ASAP.

The photos of Mexico Beach reminded me of the photos of the two cities in Japan the US flattened with our atomic bombs during WWII. Hard to imagine Mother Nature can create such havoc.
