40lb Sufix or 40lb power pro?

So I plan on going salmon fishing (yes I know this is bass resource) but i have to respool first and I was curious on thoughts about these two lines. I need somthing that won’t fray (I’ll be drifting rocks a lot) my setup is a med heavy g loomis steelhead drift rod with a abu Garcia black max

I've used a lot of both companies' products and have never had trouble with either.  (other than color fading with old Power Pro)  But if I know no details about the products I'll use Suffix.  Every product from Suffix just seems top quality.

Alright just curious about one thing. Sufix has a small diameter right? 20lb is the same as 6lb mono. I’m using a bait caster do you think 40 will be small enough to kind of dig into the spool and make a nasty knot

I have used 40 pound braid on baitcasters and have not had the digging problem.  On king salmon , too, so have had some fairly high drag settings.  Of course most casting reels' drags (the ones I use, bass reels, not bigger reels) only go to 12 pounds or so, a few higher.

 

I expect you'll get some responses from those who have used these lines with higher drag settings.  Valid concern.

Pretty sure my Gen1 STX is rated for about 24# drag.  I've only had 40# braid on the reel.  Never a problem with dig in.  Originally spooled with Sufix Performance.  Re-spooled with 40# Original PowerPro because I was on vacation and my line choice was very limited.  PP is a lot noisier through the guides.  Sufix is not always thinner.  I am using 10# Sufix Ghost (4# equivalent) on a spinning reel.  Went Sufix instead of PowerPro because 10# PP is 2# equivalent.  Possibly a bit too thin for my eyes.  40# from each company is .013 diameter.

Never have used suffix, powerpro is just easy for me to acquire.

use whichever is readily available in your area. they are both good line.

in regards to the digging problem: i currently use 30 and 40lb power pro on my baitcasters, with no problems.

I have had digging in problems in the past, but that was from using a large diameter line for backing.

I now use trilene xl 8lb line as a backer. then fill with braid. it eliminated my digging in problems.

I've noticed 8carrier 30lb braided line on my Shimano Casitas will sometimes dig during casting presentations but I've never noticed this problem with 40lb, 50lb, 65lb. Something also to consider is spool size, type of backing and lures you are presenting ; all of these may contribute to the occurrence of line dig and looping.

I have a 40lb 150yd spool of Sufix but haven't spoiled it up and tried it yet tho. Bought on Amazon for $8 and change. Bought it for the free scissors included with it mainly. Going to put it on one of my back up reels eventually and maybe try some frogging.

Both Sufix and Power Pro are acceptable. I peronally like the Daiwa J-Braid x8 for 40lb line. Once I get to heavier lines, the Power Pro Macuarto is my line of choice as it's a little more abrasion resistant, and I figure once you step up to 50+lb line that's going to be more important. I just use 40lb line as my all-purpose line, in place of 30lb braid which tends to stick to itself when it's cold a bit more.
