Don't you find that they get tangled when your up on pad??

Not if I'm careful and pay attention to what I'm doing.

Especially since there's not a stock hook left in the bunch . . .

Your pic caused me to pull out a few of my old smithwicks with the big bills....they may get tried here pretty soon.  Don't believe they have ever caught a fish.  But at one time I carried them everywhere with no luck.  Getting stuck on the Jackell 95's....12# line.  Tried ten but donated just a few to many.

I hope you catch some. I went out this morning and managed two on the megabass pumpkinseed color.  Started getting to windy to fish in the canoe after awhile but it was fun!

Been throwing the Ito Shiner more and more the past 3-4 years. I'll never give up the Vision, but I'm liking the action of the Shiner and the results are just as good.

It's the Female Gill. I picked up three of that color when I was in Japan awhile back and I've been looking for more.

No, it might have been a limited color. The one below it is the Wagin Oikawa Male, it does very well in stained water.

Thanks for the advice.  We get some stain in early fall

Don't overlook the Duo Realis jerkbaits either. They make awesome baits that don't seem to get a lot of love for some reason. The little Rozante 73 in Neo Pearl has been my best jerkbait from winter until now.

Image may contain: one or more people, outdoor and water

It's been catching everything this fall too.

The purple mist 120 size was really good this year too.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a strict no trebles near carpet rule. I really like fishing JBs and they catch fish year round for sure, but in warmer water, there is usually a better option, and trebles are often a bit of a pain around vegetation. From October to Mayish, I always have one tied on.

I caught 3 of them that day, 2 made the trip home after I started catching walleye, figured they could join the party since I was already getting my hands dirty. A 16" and 18" walleye for scale. All 4 fish pictured ate that same Duo jerkbait.

+1 on the Duo Jerkbaits! The 110 SP in green smelt has been KILLER. Very underrated baits

I’ve been waiting a few years now for the jerkbait bite... I have never had a good day with them on my lake. I’ve witnessed others put on a clinic all around me. I’ll keep at it...

Keep trying, once you get it down I think it’s one of the more fun ways to fish !

Brings back memories of our 2017 trip to Lake St Clair.  Seems like every year there are the old faithfuls that always produce but some years it's either one specific bait or one technique that just outshines the others.  I'll admit upfront, I am not overly fond of jerkbaits with smallies.  Too many hooks and too much thrashin means the odds go up for me to get skewered.  BUT.....in 2017, the last week of May on our annual trip to Lake St Clair the smallies were just going CRAZY over a deep diving Staycee Jerkbait in one color.  I became a believer.  Of course last trip in May of this year, they wouldn't even sniff it.

You have to come to Lake Erie for prespawn smallies. I know lake st Clair is a huge go to for a lot of anglers but man I don’t think Erie can be beat.  6 hour fishing trips producing 30-50+ smallies between 3-5 pounds! Largest this past spring was almost 6 that my partner caught ! Such a rush

We've been going to St Clair for 15 years.  We've got it figured out to where we can find them no matter what the weather.  On Erie, bad weather puts you in your truck (other than Presque Isle and the bay)!!  We stay in a cottage on Harsens Island and we can get out of the weather on the bays over there.  There's no disputing Erie's fishing but it's tough to plan a week and then get foiled by the weather.
