jbmaine Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 We were going by the local Cabela's today and decided to stop in. It had been several months since we were last there, and as the title say's it seems even more depressing. At the door I asked the greeter if they still had the bargain cave. Was told no there wasn't, but there is a clearance isle in the middle of the store. We never did find it. Went to the brook trout pool by the stuffed animal display. It used to have a dozen real good size brookies in it. Today there was only a couple of small ones left. Maybe some one was hungry for trout? Then we went to the large fish tank. The water was very dirty and many of the fish were missing. Also ( this has always ticked me off) Who would ever think that salmon, trout, and LM bass could be in the same tank, and be comfortable in the same water temp. We then went to look at rods. I wanted to see what they had for St Croix. The racks are not marked as to brand so it took some poking around but we found a good selection of premier's. A young sales person was near by so I asked if they had any St Croix Avid's. They said they didn't know, but they would find someone who would. Soon another young sales person came by. I asked the same question and got the answer, we used too, I bought one here last year, nice rod, then he just stared at be. So, I asked, do you have any now?. the answer was, I don't think so, then he left. I remember when they put this store in. I was excited to have a store like this fairly close by. Now I don't think I'll ever stop back in there. It's Kinda depressing what it's come to. 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 3, 2018 Super User Posted October 3, 2018 Mine is going strong. Loaded with Ranger, Tracker, Alumacraft, and Nitro boats. Huge hunting section and the firearm section has expanded. Never had a trout pond but the tank is rocking with big healthy fish. Quote

I envy you. not a single boat here except some 12-14ft. skiffs out side of the building around the corner. Quote
Russ E Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Kansas City Kansas Cabelas, is still going strong. Just not many deals available. Still seems strange, to see Nitros and Trackers next to the Rangers at a Cabelas. This one used to be mainly Ranger and Lowes. Lowes is now history. Quote
EGbassing Posted October 23, 2018 Posted October 23, 2018 Man you should go to the pyramid Cabela's in Tennessee. Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 24, 2018 Super User Posted October 24, 2018 JB, it would help if you would add your geographical location to your avatar. As for the Cabela's in Richmond, VA, it is the same. Nice store but the sales people really do not know bass fishing. I purchased a .38 revolver a few years ago and had to show the salesman the gun, a flyer with the sales price, and it took me about 45-minutes to clear the paper work and get the OK from the Virginia State Police as the salesman and his assistant had no idea of what they were doing. Have been to this store only six or seven times. Not worth the time or energy when we have BPS and Green Top in our back yard. Not planning to go in the future. Thanks for telling us your story. I wonder if your Cabela's will be closing in the near future? Quote
volzfan59 Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Cabela's in Bristol, VA is going strong. Well stocked, plenty of boats. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted October 26, 2018 Super User Posted October 26, 2018 Ive never been to a Cabela's. But their catalogs are nice. It sounds about like the one time I went into a gander mountain store. We were about the only people inside the store, almost including employees ! The employees had a hang-dog look about them.Maybe they had just heard the store was closing or something. I usually can find something to buy, but didnt see anything I liked . Not even a cap. Now thats bad !! Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted October 26, 2018 Super User Posted October 26, 2018 The people at our local Cabelas Told me only certain stores would now have the bargain cave. The bargain cave would no longer be in every store. Ours does not have a boat center. The aquarium is a small one here. We have one the smaller stores anyway they built. Quote
Russ E Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 stopped by Kansas City Kansas Cabelas this afternoon. Fishing section was totally rearranged and stocked with bass pro brand baits and equipment. Quote
LadiMopar Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 @jbmaine You and Mrs JB are always welcome at our Cabelas. It's probably not as big as yours (no trout pond, just one tank) but every time I go there, which is frequently, there is more and more stuff being added....it's the BPS invasion, but the fishing dept has doubled! And we have a ton of St. Croix rods....and I know where they keep them! ? Our bargain cave has shriveled up too, but it was still there a few weeks ago...just had a lot less in it. So, come on down! And we can go grab a meal or something after our shopping adventure. Quote
