Super User J Francho Posted October 1, 2018 Super User Posted October 1, 2018 There are some high end reels that use a small worm drive for the oscillation, but I don't know of any modern reels that use a true worm drive for the spinning rotor mechanics. Quote
PatrickKnight Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 I was speaking just to the oscillation mechanism. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted October 2, 2018 Super User Posted October 2, 2018 Does this spinning reel exist? I was out galloping on my unicorn and saw a big foot fishing with one. 1 Quote

They call their metal body Hagane. Some of the lower models may use a worm gear too but I'd have to ck schematics Quote

Really liking the Daiwa Back Bay 3000 but I have a Luvias 2500 that has a tick when reeling in under preasure. That's why I am trying to find a reel with aluminum body and side plate (Stradic has a graphite side plate) and worm gear ocsilation. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 3, 2018 Super User Posted October 3, 2018 You're in Sustain territory. I will say I have three OG CI4 Stradics, and literally caught 100's of bass on each, and 100's more salmon and steelhead on one. Not a single issue with any of them. I did upgrade to Carbontex drag washers. 2 Quote
