Super User king fisher Posted July 4, 2020 Super User Posted July 4, 2020 Latest update. My brother just called me and said Mexico announced they are closing travel from the US to Mexico as of today. My past post was from information and experiences I have had before today. I wouldn't worry, I can't imagine the border actually being closed, if it is it wont be for long. I did see a few US tourists that arrived today. I will talk to some this weekend and find out what they know. Like I said before, I have heard the border was closed for the past few months, and at the same time witnessed many people I know travel back and forth with no problems. That might not be the case today, I will have to look into the situation. Some states in Mexico still have restrictions on businesses considered non essential, and other states are open. In the State of Nayarit where I live hotels are open, but can only have 35% capacity. One port captain in Nayarit allows boats including charters to leave port, and another only allows subsistence fisherman to leave. A few miles south in the state of Jalisco the ports are open to charters and commercial fishing. I went out one day last week and was told by the marina manger if I was stopped, to promise I would give any fish I kept away. I wasn't stopped so I had no issues. Most bass fishing lodges are usually closed this time of year, I'm sure they will be open again, when their normal season starts. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted July 30, 2020 Super User Posted July 30, 2020 Essential crossing only. I'd say DD bass are essential. 2 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 AJ's trip is essential for my sanity, especially this year. You can tell them at the border. 1 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted July 31, 2020 Super User Posted July 31, 2020 I have had 3 friends fly in to Puerto Vallarta from the states this week. There have been no questions asked. The only place restricted to essential travel only, is crossing by car or foot at the boarder. No restrictions on flights coming from or going to the US. 1 Quote

Same thing, no big deal for the travel. Quote

Super User king fisher Posted September 2, 2020 Super User Posted September 2, 2020 I flew direct on Alaska Airlines, from Puerto Vallarta to San Diego and back last week. No problems with travel. Only trouble I had was Bait Monkey met me at the airport. I will be bass fishing San Pedro this weekend. Light rainy season this year so far. Water lower than normal. 2 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted September 7, 2020 Author Super User Posted September 7, 2020 This trip is squarely positioned directly around a Super New Moon. When the Full Moon or New Moon occurs during the Moon's closest approach to Earth, its perigee, it is often called a supermoon. We'll be fishing two full days before, of course that day and then three days after. No clue if it will help or hurt but it certainly sounds cool. ? A-Jay 2 Quote
Tim Kelly Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 I've never been able to make the moon correlate with my catches, but it seems to be a widely enough professed theory that it would be daft to ignore it if you have the pick of times for a trip. I'm almost as excited as you about the prospect of your fishing trip. I missed three this year due to the pox, so am happy to live vicariously! 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 8, 2020 Author Super User Posted September 8, 2020 Thanks @Tim Kelly. You know you have my condolences regarding missed trips. I do appreciate your support and will gladly continue up date this one accordingly. Before, during if possible and as always, after. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 12, 2020 Author Super User Posted September 12, 2020 32 Days and a Wake up~ Unfortunately, this trip is currently 'in the balance'. Guess it was bound to happen. Boils down to Pilot Availability for the charter plane to the lodge. Scheduled man has backed out and finding a replacement is proving to be a challenge. We're staying optimistic but it's about 50/50 right now. A-Jay 1 1 Quote
