I currently am using a 6'6 M/MF rod (Abu Garcia Silvermax). This rod and reel combo has gotten roughed up a bit and I am considering what to get when I do need to replace it. I found that it worked well for spinnerbaits but am thinking something a bit longer with similar action would be nice for further casting. Any recommendations

I often use my Daiwa Tatula Glass 7'2" MH/MF for spinnerbaits as well as bladed jigs and crankbaits. It's a pretty solid moving bait stick.

I got my son a Mojo bass spinnerbait rod, which is lighter and similar in action however I do feel that I actually get better sensitivity at times with the glass Tatula.

Cabelas Tournament ZX Spinnerbait/Swim jig model.  They just went off sale for $75 which was a smoking deal.  They usually go on sale every few weeks if you can wait.

If you Don't want to wait, Falcon Bucoo SR 7' Med Heavy, Mod Fast.

I don't think they sell that at the Canadian Cabelas. Just realizing how much less is available here in Canada.

I was pretty sure I read on here that Cabela's rods are all being discontinued as a brand now that bass pro has acquired them.

How much are you looking to spend? You don't mention a budget,  but at about $130 bucks I throw mine on a Favorite USA Sick Stick 7'2" MH/F or a Favorite USA Defender 7'5" MH/F. In that price range I would also try a Dobyns Fury without question, though I haven't used them personally.

Below that in price range there isn't much imagination huge fan of that I'm willing to recommend. The Dobyns colt is well regarded as is the Berkely lightning rod shock. But unless you are rarely throwing anything that heavy, I would beef up to a MH/F for a spinnerbait personally.

I love the Daiwa Tatula 7' 2" MH/R for spinner baits and chatter baits...

I take it you have the non glass model? I think the glass model has just a little less tip so you can also fish cranks on it (although I'm not familiar with the graphite one).

You're saying the glass model has less tip?  "Less tip" means less moderate I always thought.

I worded that poorly. I should have said a less stiff tip.

I always hated how people would refer to the the action as more or less tip (or at least action is what I think they are trying to describe). Then I read articles on bass fishing sites that refer to a rod with a x action and x tip making things very confusing as I am not sure what the difference is between the two.

A rod has a power (Light, Heavy etc.) and an action (moderate, Fast etc.). Why do people keep bringing up the term tip when they describe a rod? Or am I the confused one here?

Correct I use the graphite rod for this but I also have the glass model for cranks.

Not sure if you have taken a look, but on tacklewarehouse the G loomis E6X spinnerbait rod 6'9 is on sale rn for like 30ish bucks off. I personally do not have it, but I've read some great reviews on it!

In my understanding, a rod with a lot of tip or 'tippy' has a good bit of bend down the blank.  As you know, power and action are not standard measurements or ratings, so if I say a rod is fast action, with a lot of tip, I would mean that it is on the slow side of fast.

Simply stating the action doesn't mean a whole lot.

I may be alone in this understanding but it's just what I always figured the consensus was on what that meant.

Most of the terms we banter about don't have an actual definition. As a rod builder, when I say a blank has some tip, I mean the tip is soft in relation to the overall power. To say this is completely unrelated to action would be inaccurate but it's not a direct and measurable relationship. As for a spinnerbait rod, a Mh/F like you'd use for similar whited jigs etc is what I recommend.

I’m surprised you were able to throw spinner baits effectively on a medium rod. The abu Garcia vengeance 7 medium heavy fast is a good rod and although it’s rated as fast, it has a good tip for spinner baits.

I have this same Rod and its my all around favorite for this reason. Its designed to be a crankbait rod and does that well but its great for spinner baits and blade jigs etc too.
