Rattl'n Vibe 5/8 are my first option. Rippin Rap, one knoker booyah or Xcalibur, Buzzer Beater tungsten of Evergreen and Duel Flasi'n vibe complette my top dice.

I'm pretty much a Rat-L-Trap guy but like you back a few years ago I wanted that bit of a different look and sound and to have another option. I've been happy with the SK versions. I like the color patterns I went with. There is a nice selection of the Sexy patterns. They all work well.

Lipless baits were my bread and butter this past spring.  The 1/2 ounce super spot in copper craw, and the 1/4 ounce rat-l-trap in natural craw were about the only baits I fished with back in March.

I prefer using Bill Lewis Rat-L-Traps and Cotton Cordel Super Spots.

I started with Original Bill Lewis  Rat-L-Traps 25+ years ago. Always caught fish on them.

When the Strike King Red Eye Shad came out, I jumped on the bandwagon and fished them almost exclusively for a long while

The last few years has been "play around with different lipless baits" for no other reason than i was bored with the R.E.S. It didn't stop working, but I just wanted to try new stuff. I also got a little dismayed at the number of people tossing SK cranks in general....seems like EVERYONE around here throws them, and wanted to be "different" in that aspect.

Over the course of my playing around with many many different brands and styles the last few years, the standouts have been:

The Spro Aruku Shad, the Jackall TN Disk Knocker (a little $$$ for me but dang it's pretty and works), plus the Damiki Tremor (especially the silent version). And let me tell you about the Ima suspending trap....shhhhh..never mind.

Honorable mention to the Berkley Warpig  (I fished the Warpig almost exclusively this year and while not unproductive, I wasn't "wowed" by it, but it's a solid bait), the Lucky Craft LV500, the good ol' dirt cheap Cordell Spot, and the various Booyah/old x-caliber baits.

Rapala, Yamamoto, Livetarget, Livingston, Savage Gear, Lunker hunt, and Storm lipless baits have not been worth the packages they come in....for me...YMMV.

I am interested in trying the Azuma line of baits, and maybe the R2S Rukus next.

I guess I don't have a favorite....I like them all LOL.

Traps are a lure classification that are now called lipless crabkbaits. Bill Lewis Rat L Trap wasn't the 1st, it was the most popular and may still be.

It really wasn't until Lewis Traps and Cordell Spots started catching tournament bass in the 70's did anyone start talking about them. Smithwick came out with a bone Water Gator "lipless" in the mid 70's that worked good and now only a memory.

So what separates one lipless from another? They all catch bass. My guess is personal preference or brand loyalty.

LC 500 came out with new look finish, premium hooks and caught bass on the fall and when cranked fast becoming very popular, but price was high and it lost it's mojo, still an excellent lure.

I used them all and can't see a big difference with straight running lipless lures. Where I see a difference is falling through the water column or retreive slower and still catch bass retrieved fast, this is where YoZuri 3D Prizm Vibe shines during a Threadfin Shad bite.

Lipless are versital lures and during the spring and fall shad bite a standby.

I caught 4 over 5 pounds in one trip last month on the Azuma Shaker Z Lipless Knock Knock in bone white. It's got a single larger BB for a difference in sound. I actually picked it up in a discount bin for $3. Needless to say, it was well worth my initial investment.

I use them all but have used more of the Storm Arashi Vibes this year with good luck. Probably just a confidence thing.

Went out fishing this morning and started with a red eye shad and exclusively fished it for the couple hours I was out.  I ended up catching a bunch including a few that were 3+ lbs.  However the person I was with, seeing I was nailing them on the lipless crank, was shuffling through all his lipless cranks of other brands and only managed to catch one fish.  Sure there are other factors that had to do with this but I am just saying I am pretty happy with the R.E.S.

I do a lot of fishing from a jon boat and i can hear the rattles beating inside a Red Eye Shad as it  is falling , even on the Two Tap . I can sometimes hear bass hitting the lures and not feel it .

ACADEMY H20 EXPRESS

The academy baits are good. Good hooks and colors. Sometimes, you can pick up 2 for the price of 1 in other brands.I like their crankbaits too

agreed...

don't know why Academy sometimes gets a bad rap...the one I go to has spinning & baitcasters 200 dollars and up for the discriminating buyer down to 50 bucks for the H20 Xpress Mettle baitcaster for the man on a budget...

and all the other fishing gear...

good fishing...

Looks good. Did you catch your personal best largemouth bass on a Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap? I think I read you saying that a while ago.
