Swimbait reel ?

I’m purchasing a dobyns 806 to throw 2-5 oz baits and I was looking for a decent casting reel to go along with this. I have seen people on here mention some but those were the circle casting rods which I’m not to fond of. Wondering if anyone uses anything else like a quantum smoke as it has a deeper spool or the abu Garcia revo? Could those work for swimbaits or is it to much to handle. Some advice please and thanks

Here are some that I have used and really liked. Daiwa Tatula 200 HD, 13 A3, Lew's super duty HD and the Curado K.

A lot of ppl recommended round reel for big swimbait mostly due to line capacity. Depends on how big the line (diameter) you want on your reel. If you want low profile reel, Look at Tranx 200 and 300, Daiwa Lexa300 or tatula HD. I use curado 200ipg for up to 2oz lure, other than that all round reel like Cardiff 200 and Daiwa Luna 253. I use mostly 12-17lb test mono line which pretty small compare to other.

Most 8' long swimbait rods have a fore grip and Dobyns are no exception. I mention this because the fore grip adds height near the reel seat that the line coming off the reel spool must not contact during the cast going into the first rod giude. 

I would check with Dobyns as to the reels thier swimbait rods are designed to perform with.

The reels spool line capacity should be at least 150 yards of 25 lb test monofilament line, not braid. The Shimano Tranx 300 should work.

I in the same camp as Just james, My line of thinking is if your going to be throwing big baits and putting heavy line on the reel (heavy meaning above 16# flouro/mono). You need a reel with the matching guts (gear strength, retrieve ratio & drag rating). With that in mind, the round reels fill that bill like the Calcutta, Ambassador, Millionaire's. There are others I am sure. Low profile reels would be the Shimano Curado 300E or Tranx series, Diawa's Lexa and Garcia's Revo winch or Toro S would also be decent choices. The lower retrieve ratio is like having more torque at your finger tips. Which ever way you decide to go good luck swim baiting.

I’ll call tomorrow and I should have noted that my budget for the reel is 200$ max so the tranx is just outside that

I called dobyns this morning and the guy I talk to said he uses the abu Garcia toro or he said even the winch would be good choice. So I’ll probbsly go with one of those @WRB thank you for the help

I have (4) Calcutta 400D's for my big bait applications.  They're built like tanks and hold plenty of 25lb.
