Just what do you guys see?  Lowrance is coming out with an update that will let me see the 3D Nav.  Is it beneficial to have this option?

Side imaging lets you look at the bottom for up to 150 feet on both sides of your boat. Now realize that if your in rough or uneven terrain you won't see that far, because the first hilltop will stop your sonar and shadow is all you'll see from that point out.

Traditional downlooking sonars you'll have to zig-zag to see channels and cuts, SI you can spot right off the bat.  I don't much care for the computer interpreted images and you can't speed with the thing..4mph..no rough water either...but still a good tool.

Its just another tool in your arsenal. Just like building a house...you need a hammer, but try building it with just a hammer and nothing else.

If I had to have just have one unit , it would be a console gimbeled 979csi. Forget about it on your trolling motor, you have to run straight. So I still use my Lowrance for the detail and speed.

Can you elaborate? I didn't see anything on the Lowrance website. I've used the new Humminbird, and I thought the 3D view was cool. Will it be available for my Lowrance 5300?

I'm talking about the GPS nav, not the sonar, obviously...

Oh, and I guess to answer your question, it looks like the view from an automobile gps unit, like a Tom-Tom or otherwise. Very neat. The unit I was viewing did not have a detailed map installed, just the stock job.

I am not sure what it is.  I just got the ethernet cable which is suppose to let my 2 units look at 1 transducer.   I talked with a tech who said in a couple of weeks I  would also be able to get 3D.
