I use Big Game 10 and 12 on mono for several reasons when cranking diving lures. The most important is it's easy to cast, good knot strength and inexpensive to replace worn line. Medium divers you don't need low gear ratio reels, deep divers they help. Tom I ended up buying the medium 7'3" lunkerstik casting, was unknowingly 20% off as a bonus. It has LOT of give so I might go fluorocarbon to compensate a little bit, there's no way I can get a fish unpinned on this rod. Seems sturdy enough to get job done though. It Will likely go to next year before trying it sadly ! Quote
GeekOutdoors Posted October 5, 2018 Author Posted October 5, 2018 I put a reel which has braid on it and tied a rapala lipless keychain and it cast like a charm, I got over 100ft casting distance without pushing it. I will probably bring it along for this week end outing to see how it does on/in the water Quote
GeekOutdoors Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Oh and as far as I read, I do not have to go 5ish for the ratio as the medium power will not let me use Deep divers and/or larger CB anyway ? I put a spare Citica 200e 6.3:1 I had. This reel has a Curado spool and a bushing changed for a bearing and works just fine ! It actually has braid on (40 Power Pro) but I will change for fluorocarbon before next year. I don't think I'd go mono, I felt the rod had plenty of give when casting in the backyard. Quote
GeekOutdoors Posted October 12, 2018 Author Posted October 12, 2018 Just a quick follow-up. I tried the Lunkerstik with a Citica 6.3:1 with a Flicker Shad size 7 tied with a rapala knot on 40# braid. Works beautifully but both the reel and the rod were at their limits. Quote
