dcchester Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 We own a 2013 golf wagon and I have to find a way to fit my rods in the car for the 5 hour drive to our cottage. Folding down the seats and running them up the middle is not an option because we will have a car full of people. We have a roof rack on top for gear do that is also not an option. I was thinking maybe duct taping them to the ceiling of the car. We don’t have any hooks to hang them from so I am pretty much out of ideas. What do you guys think? Quote
Super User Scott F Posted September 21, 2018 Super User Posted September 21, 2018 Why isn't the roof rack an option? Buying or making a rod tube that can be tied to anything that is on the roof seems to be the only sensible option to me. 1 Quote
LionHeart Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 How many rods are we talking about? How many people are going? How much luggage will be inside the car? Quote

There is no space because the bucket itself is taking up the space on the rails 17 minutes ago, LionHeart said: How many rods are we talking about? How many people are going? Troy85 Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 In my wife's car. I run them along the driver and passenger side, next to the headrests. I rest of handle of the rod behind the back seats and I use the visor to secure the rod tip. I've never had any issues. Quote

Super User islandbass Posted September 21, 2018 Super User Posted September 21, 2018 That is not a bad option and one I’d consider. The other is if you have the time, to make a “case” out of pvc pipe with a diameter large enough to accommodate all 5 rods sin reels of course. You can even add foam padding. then find a way to secure to the other gear on top. Or you can buy a Plano rod case. Plano has made (I have one) a rod carrier that can easily accommodate all five rods and, you can even secure them with a pad or combination lock. It’s length is even adjustable and the interior is padded on the top and bottom. I bought mine maybe ten years ago but it is still functional. They look like this: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/plano-airliner-telescoping-rod-case?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzNKFosvM3QIVBVt-Ch1yiAPZEAYYAiABEgJQt_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds It really shouldn’t be too much of a challenge to find a way to secure it somewhere on top of your car whether by straps, rope, or duct tape, lol. Practical minds always find a practical way or solution. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted September 23, 2018 Super User Posted September 23, 2018 I used to have a car with a very flat headliner and I would use HD velcro strips to hold a rod or two upthere. Reels were removed obviously. Quote
Stephen B Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 My buddy uses a series of buggee cords from one overhead handle across to another to secure them over his head. It works well and is inexpensive. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 23, 2018 Super User Posted September 23, 2018 with that many people and that much gear, i'd take another car lol 1 2 Quote
GeekOutdoors Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 If you carry them often, a ceiling rack is the nicest. DIY one for my Jeep Liberty and works great Quote
DSTN Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 I had a coworker who used a ceiling rack in his Honda Pilot. Was a solid set up. He was able to leave his reels on the rods but I would think in a vehicle like yours with less head space you would need to remove the reels for your trip. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 25, 2018 Super User Posted September 25, 2018 if you have the space a ceiling rack works well. I used one in my 4 door wrangler and was able to leave the reels in place. 1 Quote
