jonnyfish Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 I opened the maintenance port and put 3 drops of the liquid (which i hopefully think is oil that came with my STX) onto my main gear. However, now my reel feels geary in certain areas. Did I accidentally put degreaser in my reel? Quote
Vincent_Diesel Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Not sure what your reel manufacturer recommends but gears usually require something a bit more viscous, like grease. If it was a liquid as you say, I would assume that is for bearings or shafts/pins. 1 1 Quote
Super User burrows Posted September 20, 2018 Super User Posted September 20, 2018 Grease is what you’re supposed to put in that maintenance port but no worries it won’t harm your reel. Open up the port squeeze some grease against the teeth of the main gear and turn the knob to get the grease spread evenly. Should be fine. 1 Quote

But the thing im wondering was why my reel felt more geary after oiling Quote
Super User MickD Posted September 20, 2018 Super User Posted September 20, 2018 The oil probably lowered the viscosity of the grease that was there which would lower the damping effect of the grease giving more feel of the teeth meshing. 2 2 Quote
