Krux5506 Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 I'm hoping to upgrade my console fish finder for next season without breaking the bank on anything too crazy, so I've settled on the Garmin Striker 9 SV, since I have the 7DV on the bow. Is there anything I need to be concerned about mounting a side imaging transducer to an aluminum hull? I recall reading a while back someone having issues, but can't find more info. Any insight would be appreciated! Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted September 19, 2018 Global Moderator Posted September 19, 2018 I would recommend getting a transducer mounting plate. That way if you need to move it to get the perfect image you're drilling into the mounting plate and not the Tin. I thought I read somewhere that if you want to save a few bucks you can use a plastic cutting board and cut it down. 1 Quote

This When you mount the transducer board, you want to mount it closer to the motor than the gunwales. The board would be mounted parallel to the bottom of the hull and the transducer parallel to the water. The transducer should be mounted in between the strakes as the strakes cause air turbulence and transducers do not like air. Also, take note, you will need to trim the motor up some to get an SI image on both side of the motor. If you don't, you will find that the motors lower unit will bounce the beam back and you end up with a good reading on the side clear of the lower unit, and a reflection of the good side, on the opposite. 1 1 Quote
