Does anyone have any experience pulling a 21ft fiberglass boat with a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a towing capacity of 6500?

Would you feel comfortable driving this combo 200 miles several times a year?

Thanks. Any input would be helpful.

Well, I'm not sure this will help you, but I had a '93 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 318ci/auto.  I towed a Ranger 360 and a TR20 around with it with absolutely no trouble whatsoever.  It was one of the best tow vehicles I ever had.  Made a few trips between Pa and Tn towing the boat (700 miles one way) and it never hiccupped.  Had the factory towing package installed in it.  The most amazing thing I noticed was that it would go up and down steep grades with the cruise control locked on and it never once needed to downshift!!  Only reason I got rid of it was the wife wanted something new.... ;)

My wife tows my Champion 206 with her Jeep Liberty.  She has hauled it to Austin, TX and back which is about 700 miles each way.

I think it might be a woman. My wife can pull MY Ranger as good as anybody and through in a screaming three year old. You should have no problem. If you dont have a tranny cooler might want to pick one up.

JigMan is the smart one, he don 't drive, he lets the wife drive while he can relax.  ;)

As long as the weight of the boat is below the towing rating of your vehicle you should have no worries.  So if it can haul 6500lbs and I doubt the boat is 6000lbs you should have any worries as long as you don't have to stop fast.

I have a 2000 Grand Cherokee with a 4.7 L with the factory tow package. It tows my 2500lb pop-up with out a problem. It starts and stops just fine.   No brakes on the trailer.

friend of mine had a 1997 GC with a 4.0 L straight 6 and it pulled a 22 foot Mastercraft ski boat for 10 years. 210,000+miles with out a major  problem. he added a trans cooler and towed in 3rd, in 2000 he did upgrade the brakes, because a lot of his towing would be in the mountains in Pa, WVA& and MD. but it handled it fine. he now pulls with a 07 GC with a hemi in it, its better. As long as the boat, or what ever you are towing, is under the Max tow weight you should be fine. and like said I don't think that boat is anywhere near your Max tow weight. and a 200 mile trip is nothing, you could tow that boat on 1,000+ trips and have no problems
