Is it possible to put a foot controlled trolling motor on the transom of a jon boat?  I sit in the back of my boat and just hate reaching behind me for the tiller handle all day.  Hmm.. Or maybe I could put one up front and run the foot pedal to the back?

If you want to run a bow mount TM from the back you are going to be limited in what you can install.

Minn Kota make a Power Drive model TM that has a small pedal and long cord. I also think Motorguide makes a similar set up.

For me, one of the advantages of being right over the trolling motor is to see stumps lurking right below the surface. I don't know if you are planning on standing up in your boat or not but  just something to consider.

I'm looking to do the same thing.   Cabelas has a 40# foot control bow mount TM for 299 this week.  I have seen several people put a small deck up front on their jon boats to act as a platform for the tm.

Something like this is what I'm thinking.

jemackinnon83, why do you prefer to sit in the back of your boat?

A boat is a lot easier to control with the trolling motor pulling the boat than it is trying to push the boat. The advantage is much greater when in wind or current.

Right now I've just got a TM but plan on getting a small outboard soon.  I agree that it'd be better sitting up front and having a bow mount TM but I'm worried about when I am fishing with someone else, it's not real easy to swap positions in a 1232 jon boat.
