mrcimon Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 I'm looking to get a Kayak next season, but I think I want to get some waders for fishing the rivers in my area. I'm 250lb, 5'10" and a size 13 shoe. I was looking on Bass Pro Shops and didn't understand there sizing chart, 7/8/9/10 etc. Unless this is simply shoe size. Anyone recommend a brand? Quote
wet_dream Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 I’ve been happy with my LL Bean waders. They used to have a lifetime warranty but that was just recently revised due to customers abusing the policy. I fish saltwater and they’ve held up well. I believe those number sizes you are referring to are shoe sizes. The only thing I would do different is buy a set of bootfoot instead of stocking foot for the saltwater. Sand is a pain in the butt. Super User J Francho Posted September 17, 2018 Super User Posted September 17, 2018 Get breathable in stocking foot that fit. Then you can get a boot that fits. For waders, it's a you get what you paid for thing. For boots, I like Korkers with the different tread options. 1 Quote
moguy1973 Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 If you have an Academy close their Magellan brand are really good waders for the price. As said above get some stocking foot ones and then get some boots that fit those. Also, if you fish a river that is muddy you'll probably want lug sole boots and not felt. Felt is for slippery, moss covered rocks. Also, some places don't allow felt soles due to the spread of rock snot so be aware of that too. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 17, 2018 Super User Posted September 17, 2018 Korkers studded lug sole will go anywhere. Quote

Kev-mo Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 All waders leak at some point so I guess it depends if you're looking for something that will last and is repairable or if you're leaning more towards throw away once they leak. As mentioned LL Bean has a good warranty. Cabelas used to have a lifetime warranty but who knows now... Definitely go with a breathable stocking foot and separate boots. Make sure you get a stocking foot that says it fits size 13. Don't think cause it's neoprene it'll stretch and be okay. You will stress the seams and they will leak. Speaking seams... if you stress/stretch them they will leak. Make sure you oversize a little bit so you have room when bending, squatting, lifting your leg over a laydown etc. Also if you plan to wade in cooler temps you'll want some room to layer both on top and bottom. As far as brands go... personal preference just like everything else. I think Simms are the only ones using gore tex so they stand apart. Quote
PNW LipRipper Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Look into stout size in s/m/L with stocking foot and breathable a must. As for wadder boots get 1 size larger then you wear korkers highly recommend Quote
Shane Y Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 I used to coon and hog hunt a lot with dogs. I have used Dan's hip waders for a long time and love them. They aren't chest waders. Just hip waders. They are briar proof and snake "resistant"....I did get whacked by a copperhead with them on and it didnt get through. They make light and heavy ones. The heavy is what I've always used. I've fished small rivers and creeks a ton in them. Quote
thinkingredneck Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I have been happy with hodgeman. Stockingfoot. They make an XXL short, I believe. Quote
