Russ E Posted September 17, 2018 Author Posted September 17, 2018 thanks everyone. they were obviously looking for guns. they left a $150.00 range finder and a $250.00 set of binoculars laying on my passenger seat. I was talking to my neighbor, who was also robbed that night, we both make a habit of locking our vehicles every night. we either both forgot the same night we were robbed or the thieves were good at breaking into vehicles. Will never know for sure. KCK PD told me to leave the serial number and police case number with the local pawn shops, so that will be my next act. Quote
Big Rick Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 If it's not prying too much, what type of truck do you have? The reason I'm asking is here in our fine state the newer Ford trucks that have the number pad on the door are being stolen like candy. Jackson Ms has had over a hundred stolen in the last 18 months, if my source is correct. The number pad is easily defeated and very obvious to see on a drive by while casing the neighborhood for the nights activities. It also shuts off any vehicle theft preventative when it unlocks the doors. I was just curious if this might be the case for you... Quote

I may have simply forgot to lock it. There is no way to tell. Quote

I don't think any newer GM products have a number pad. However, the right criminal can get in there relatively easy with no evidence of a break in. Just watch a few you tube videos and it'll make you scared to leave anything in the open. Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted September 18, 2018 Super User Posted September 18, 2018 Sorry for your trouble. I am always torn with carrying my gun in the truck or not, because I am very forgetful with things that I dont routinely do every day. I drive my work truck all day, and drive it home, and arent allowed to have it in there, so I dont drive my personal truck except after hours and weekends. My daughter takes my grandaughter to school in it, and she forgets to lock it sometimes. It is a recipe for disaster so I usually dont take it.But what if I need it? We have had tons of car burglaries the last few years so I know it would eventually happen. Its the thiefs fault, not your intention. Dont beat yourself up over it. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted September 18, 2018 Super User Posted September 18, 2018 On my last truck (a 2004 3/4 ton Silverado) I figured out a way to set the alarm but not lock the doors but I can't for the life of me remember how I did it. I figured it out after I had a break in because I left it unlocked in my driveway. Nothing but toll change stolen and they left quite a few valuables alone. I did it to keep any thieves from breaking the glass and if they simply "tried" the door first, it would set off the alarm. My new truck (2016 Silverado) I can't do it. If you are going to carry and use your truck, it's probably time for a lockable gun case made for trucks. I am sponsored by Stack-On and I know they make one (bolts or cable locks to truck). Don't beat yourself up. Learn from the experience. Quote

Same here. I might need it more for some of the dangerous 4 legged critters we have around here. A woman in my area was recently attacked by a Coyote. Quote
