I did a quick search but did not find the answer I am looking for so here it goes:

I buy and use a lot of the Maxima Chameleon in the 27 yard leader spools.

Is the larger 200 plus yard spools the same stuff, just more of it?

Thank ya kindly!

As long as it says "leader" on it...yes.  If not, no.

Does the word "Leader" represent the Line Spool Size (27 yards) or is there a Chameleon Leader Line and a Chameleon Reel Line?

Good question.

I can tell you what I know, there may be more to it.  "Leader" means the line has properties specifically designed for use as a leader.  Usually more abrasion resistant, usually a little stiffer.

Just so I'm covering everything I can think of, I frequently use line that's not marked as leader as a leader - my BFS rig and my ML spinning rig are specific examples.

What I could find om Maxima Chameleon: http://www.maximafishingline.com/products/chameleon/

They appear to treat leader and line as two different products, which makes sense to me.

I'm not at all familiar with Maxima, but it appears that they make leader material for fly fishermen.  I don't fly fish, but I would not be surprised if fly fishing leaders are designed/produced uniquely/specially from other lines in a brand's stable.

However, ever since I first started seeing leader spools at TW, I've been a little cautious (suspicious?)  I've not yet seen a manufacturer's claim that a brand's make/model leader is different than filler spool line of same make/model.  Could be, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it is a sales/marketing 'trick', labeling regular line as leader, putting it on smaller spools and charging more.  I have zero evidence to support that ....just all seems a bit weird.  Even if it isn't exactly the same, is it really 'different' than anything else in their catalog?  For example, here's all the great gouge on Suffix Invisiline Leader from Suffix and TW:

Suffix web site:

"A premium quality and high integrity fluorocarbon leader line. Nearly invisible in water and sinks 4 times faster than nylon lines. "

TW:

"In today’s fishing world, leaders and topshots are becoming more and more popular. Sufix Invisiline Fluorocarbon Leader provides anglers with a superior fluorocarbon line without having to waist money on a full spool.  Delivering all the benefits of fluorocarbon, Invisiline Leader is 100% crystal-clear fluorocarbon that is virtually invisible in the water and impervious to ultraviolet rays that can damage other lines.  Invisiline Leader is also incredibly abrasion resistant, and provides high tensile and knot strength.  Whether you are chasing bass or other gamefish, Sufix Invisiline Fluorocarbon Leader gives anglers a low-cost option to incorporate the advantages of fluorocarbon into any style of fishing."

I don't know much of anything really about line...but if I was going to design and manufacture a special leader that was materially different than my 'normal' fluoro, I'd be writing some pretty flowery ad copy to get your $$ and regain some of my design/test/production costs...so I'm a bit skeptical and will continue to use my YZH filler spools for leaders....until the Bait Monkey convinces me otherwise

Likewise, compare Sunline Fluoro Leader to Sunline Structure FC Fluoro...same diameters and very similar description....although, Structure FC is constructed from E2 raw material and the leader is constructed from E3....lol....whatever that means

All good discussion points.

I can't speak to Suffix leader material, haven't used it, and I can't speak to Maxima line that's not leader (haven't used that, either), but I can attest to the fact that Seaguar's leader material is different from their regular line...and you can tell by running it through your hands and dragging it across a fingernail.

I use heavy fluorocarbon leader material (50# and up) on musky/pike rigs in some instances where I've had issues with wire.  I use either their Blue Label or Saltwater leaders.

...and those are on gear rigs, not fly rigs.  I'm pretty much a one trick pony for toothy fish fly leaders: 50# Maxima green leader material to about 18" of Tieable wire.  To steal a line from Porshce in the 80s: Nothing even comes close.

@Further North & @Choporoz

As an FYI,

I did email Maxima directly last week asking the same question I posted above.

To date, I have not gotten a response.

Thank you both for your insight.

PS: My hunch is that they are the same.

Buy some of each and test it.  Better to know than not.

As I mentioned above, I know the Seaguar leader is a different critter than the fishing line...and reflecting on this a bit...the Maxima leader I have on hand would make terrible fishing line.

I agree.
