Hi,

I know there are a ton of posts on Dobyns power ratings and which one is this power and which one isn't. But I need a specific answer because all the other posts don't say, I want to throw t rigs that are 3/16 oz, jigs no more than 1/2 oz, and then a jumble of other things if needed. So really just an all around rod, but I don't know if a dobyns medium heavy will be strong enough for t rigs and jigs if it fishes more like a medium. So i just need an answer on whether or not i should get a medium heavy and it will be fine or get a heavy because i need strength on those t rigs and jigs? Also I am not throwing directly into grass but in most of the places i fish there are lots of pads and grass that fish will get themselves into when being reeled in so I might need the heavy for that.

Thanks, Harrison ?

*the bold and underlined part is my main question, the other parts are information that someone might need to answer it. Maybe not though*

4 power

Thank you for the basic answer, thats all i needed. Some people write paragraphs for just a simple 1-2 word answer. 4 power it is, i was leaning that way anyway.

No need to lean further.

I have a Sierra 734C and I use it mostly to throw 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jigs

So I agree 4 power

I'm in a different camp now. The longer I fish the more I try to get away with heavy rods. The only reason I still throw t-rigs on a medium heavy is because I often use bullets down to 1/4 for 7" power worms. Jigs, chatterbaits, frogs, Texas rigs over 1/4, swingheads, a few otherside cant think of all go on heavy if its convenient to do so. Most of those I will throw on a medium heavy if my heavy rods are tied up with other things but I prefer the stupid amount of backbone to get the fish out of cover from my kayak and to keep my rod from breaking when the fish dart under my kayak when I try to lip them. Just my $0.02

Thanks for your thoughts, I will only be using bullets weights up to 3/16 oz but jigs from 3/8 to 1/2. @GateToWire said that he throws his 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs on the 734 so I am almost positive on that rod. Especially since I fish from the bank and a lot of the time the fish is pulling in digs into heavy pads and grass at the bank. I’ll also use it for half oz spinnerbaits if needed and my chatterbaits, love chatterbaits. I needed an all around rod that’s primarily a t rig and jig rod. Seems like the 734 is right.
