DanTheFireman Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 I'll catch anything but these guys (technically a cichlid) just float my boat. My biggest largemouth (8.69# on the digital) fought like a four pound Florida pea, or a three pound Amazon pea. 6 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted September 10, 2018 Super User Posted September 10, 2018 Welcome to the forum. Largemouth bass are not true bass (striped bass, hybrid striper, white bass, etc) either so peacock bass definitely count in this forum. That is a nice speckled peacock bass you caught in South America.I caught a 23.125 inch butterfly peacock bass recently in South Florida that fought harder than any 10 pound or better largemouth bass I have caught so I agree with you that peacock bass are pound for pound stronger than black bass. Have caught peacock bass bigger than this one and I am planning to go to South America to fish for speckled peacock bass. Quote
MichaelCopeland Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Howdy and welcome to our fishing family! Don't have any those around here or smallmouth bass either. Maybe someday I'll be somewhere to have a chance to catch some of those. Nice bass! ? Quote

I prefer peacock bass over smallmouth bass since peacock bass are much more beautiful, more exotic, and pound for pound stronger than a smallmouth bass (based on my experience on catching both species). 20 hours ago, Darren. said: Welcome aboard! Puerto Rico, Panama, South America, and some South Eastern Asian countries have peacock bass as well. 2 Quote

You will be surprised at the amount of out of state people that come to South Florida to fish for peacock bass. It is a multi million dollar industry in South Florida and lots of people spend hundreds if not thousands to catch their first peacock bass. I am fortunate to live in South Florida and have fished for peacock bass for over 23 years now, but I still plan on visiting the Amazon for speckled peacock bass and other exotic fish. 1 Quote

Peas are beautiful especially with their orange/yellow/green coloration but some smallies are pretty too. ? 2 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted September 12, 2018 Super User Posted September 12, 2018 That is a beautiful smallmouth bass you caught @Dwight Hottle, how many inches in length did it measure? Quote
RealtreeByGod Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Do Peacocks have teeth? I always see people grab them with lippers. Quote

Peacock bass have teeth similar to a black bass but they are much harder to lip and keep still. They do not know what quit means and they will give you a worse case of ''bass thumb'' or ''bass palm'' than a black bass. Quote

gnappi Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Peas are a hoot to catch, more fun than LMB, and I target them before LMB! On the down side a cold spell will kill many of them off. Quote
