my lake is 60 acres and really shallow with almost no structure. It was man made. Imagine a big rectangle with a channel that is 6-10 feet deep and the deep end of the lake is max 12' and it gets gradually shallower until the other end which is like a foot or two deep. There bottom is made up of mud, rock, and sand. Like I said, there is very little structure except for the channel, a floating dock, two boulders and a few stumps in the shallow part. I did map the lake with my Garmin quickdraw contours and can try to upload that later.

Basically, the lake is pretty tough to get a real pattern on. There have been two times when I had them really figured out. Once was this spring the day before opening day when I couldn't fish and there was a school of 15-20 3 lb bass in 4'. Most of the time the fish are really spread out. I am most confident with a dropshot and swimsuit and spinnerbait, but there is a ton of milfoil that grows two feet off the bottom and in random clumps along the lake. This makes the drop shot unusable and really hard to throw those baits. water clarity varies from 2' to 4-6'.

Basically, I am asking for advice on how to fish this lake and how to pattern the fish. I have only been fishing for a year or two but have learned a lot on this lake. The community is small and private so I probably know this lake better than anyone else, I just can't figure out how to catch more than one or two bass a day. There are also pickerel in the lake if that matters.

I know this is a cliche answer, but I would be fishing a Senko around the edges of those random clumps of weeds. Or a big 10”-12” ribbon tail worm with a very light bullet weight; 1/8oz or 1/4oz.

I have a similar lake almost twins and I have great luck early mornings with buzzbaits, frogs or walking baits or during the day , senko t rigged weightless , swimjig. Spinnerbaits work the best. In fall lipless cranks retriever fast also work. Ripping out of grass

Along with the good answers above, you could still fish a dropshot. Just have your bait a little over 2' from your sinker below and use a cylindrical dropshot sinker. This will keep your bait just above the 2' growth on the bottom and the cylindrical dropshot sinker will work its way through that milfoil better than a teardrop or ball sinker. You could also use a diving crankbait that will dive 3' to 5' or even up to 10' or so depending on the depth where you're fishing. Those things are made to fish just above the grasslines and ripped out them when need be. Could make for some viscous reaction strikes. ?

The light tx rig(i'd throw a speedworm) and drop shot ideas mentioned above are spot on. If you are looking to expand techniques take a look at a 1/4-3/8oz swim jig and the mojo rig.

I would look for an area that contains rock, sand and grass(2 of the 3 at least) and is close to the channel if possible. Experiment with positioning the boat in the channel and casting up shallow and vice versa, Parallel cast the channel break which most likely has a fairly decent grass line in parts of it.

Ton of options. Be patient stick with whatever new technique you try for more than a few casts and good luck!
