Can I use straight braid with a wacky rig. I fish mostly low visibility dark water with a lot of vegetation and some wood. I would be using 40lb braid. Water depths 3-6ft

Shouldn't be a problem.

If I were to do that I would be always using the line as an excuse for my not catching fish.  And wondering if the fishing might be a lot better with a mono or FC leader.

Different strokes.  Not for me.

I think that when fish are really active it will work fine, but when they are not, it could be a problem. I have a hard time believing that many pros would use quite light FC leaders on inactive fish if it were not justified with more fish.

I prefer wacky on a hi-viz braid. It’s so much easier to detect a strike because you can see it in the line. Believe me, the fish don’t mind the braid either.

I use #10lbs. yellow Power Pro braid for my spinning reels. When I wacky rig it helps having hi-viz yellow because once the lure hits the water i watch the line and if it darts to once side you know you got one.

Do you really think it's a stretch to say pro's would use unnecessary equipment to try and sell you stuff you don't really need? I'm sure the sponsors like it when they can sell you 2 kinds of line instead of just 1. I'm not suggesting it don't make any difference at all... just suggesting that the pros probably use it when it is completely unnecessary to keep the sponsors happy.

I'm sure there are plenty of times when a leader will outfish straight braid. I haven't personally experienced it often... If at all. It is not uncommon for me to catch as many or more fish with straight braid than the guy next to me using straight FC. At the end of the day it's all about what you can fish confidently, so adjust accordingly and have fun.

I do it all the time.

I would suggest a leader line for that, since you are putting 40 lbs line. It might be so tough to pull it out if you get snagged. For wacky, I like 10lbs braid line with 10 lbs FC leader

I run braid with a fluoro leader. Too simple not to do it when straight braid might cost me a fish!

Straight 40# braid and a wacky senko is money. Throw it and throw it often.
