Plano Guide Series

Over the years I have owned a number of Plano hard tackle boxes and soft bags. 

In fact, I still have 20 year old originals that I use for storage in the Man Cave.

Nothing has ever "worn out", but the new and better sometimes catching my eye.

My most recent acquisition is the Plano Guide Series Tackle Bag (3700).

     everything is on display or easily accessible.

 

2.  Guide Series 3700 with everything I might need on a trip.

3.  Plano 3600 for what I plan to fish on a particular day.

 

And by the way, this bag is handsome, too.

I’m up to 17 tackle boxes stuffed, those big green 12 spinnerbait boxes stuffed as backup, I have cardboard boxes stuffed as backup to backup.

to take fishing I have four 9606 tackle boxes, topwater, crankbaits, plastics, weedles, spinnerbaits.

 

i fish from shore being disabled near the car for easy access.

 

my point is we can never have enough tackle or storage space to store it. Plus I’m a color freak too after reading Dr Loren hills study on colors the bass can see at certain times.

After reading some of these threads I feel like I’m gonna have problems as the seasons go by.

I wish that bag had come out a few years ago! I had a similar bag but it was just too small as I developed as an angler. This is a size up and offers alot of options. Is the inside bulk storage or can you fit more 3700s in there?

 

My tackle strategy has developed too. Now that I fish from a kayak I whittle it down to what works. My spare tackle becomes just that, and relegated to the closet. Everything I want or need lives in my backpack in my jeep almost all the time. You never know!

Last year I replaced my old BPS/KVD 3700 travel bag (all of the zippers broke).  I had it for at least 10 years and it served me well.  I went in search of a bag that fits easily in the rear storage of a Ranger 520C because that's my buddy's boat and I spend a good amount of time in it.  I would also throw that bag in in my 21 ft Ranger if I was lazy.  I picked up a new Plano with the hard bottom and the fold over flap and buckles instead of zippers.  So far after 1 season and a trip to Wisconsin and Michigan, it's ......"OK"  I originally liked the idea of the flap and no zippers thinking maybe I will get even longer usage out of it but it has come with it's own set of problems.  First, there is only 1 grab handle on the bag and it's center rear.  It is unbalanced and awkward to pull out of a storage compartment.  You can't use the shoulder strap to lift it out unless you are standing on the deck.  Second, the flap is hard to unhook after you put the bag in a compartment.  The 2 buckles are low on the front of the bag and the flap gets in the way of the lid closing. You have to fold it over in the compartment to get it out of your way.  You also can't unhook the flap prior to putting it in a compartment because as I mentioned, there is only 1 grab handle and it is on the back of the flap.  Finally, the rubberized material the bag is made of is already showing stress cracks and wear where you have to flip the flap over.  Overall, it's a good product but I am just very good at finding the weak points of anything.

Ditto. I still have 2 old Plano tray boxes still going strong. They are from when you could send in for an inscribed plaque with your name that you could stick on the box.

Still trying to find the perfect kayak bag.  I hate zippers.  The new plano series is nice and no zippers.  I also use a BPS feel fre.

Kayaking is why I got away from this style bag, although I have a sit-in kayak. I switched to a flambeau backpack that I leave on my back while I'm kayaking. The straps are just long enough that the weight of the bag rests on the yak.

 

I've been shopping for a fishing sit-on kayak though, this bag may be perfect. Roadwarrior might have sold me.
