Super User Angry John Posted September 3, 2018 Super User Posted September 3, 2018 I know that the listed gear is a sponsor but why are we still presenting things in a rookie style. How is listing gear ratio the way when we as a group know that the inches per turn is a much more usable number, which is easy to compare to other products. Why is that higher gear ratio better for me who normally uses a 6.3 zillion. The difference between a car salesman and a great car salesmen is they let you know all the ways that the new car is better than the old one your using. With all the stats floating around that are not as factual as most of us would like. (This is my attempt to be critical of the information and sales pitch and is not a stab at anyone person including but not limited to Glenn) Quote

Super User FishTank Posted September 3, 2018 Super User Posted September 3, 2018 I was out today and the crankbait bite was on. Not a fan of fast reels for crankbaits but I will plug the Revo Winch. I still can't put it together in my head how smooth the reel is on the retrieve and how easy it is to control bigger fish. So far I have been very impressed with this reel for it's intended purpose. 3 Quote

Thanks I always say that 7.3:1 is a little bit fast for my liking for moving baits for me, because I find that my "natural rhythm" makes it easier for me to speed up than slow down personally. Some people find they naturally want to reel slower, and that works for them too. In the fall, I could honestly use a 5.8:1, 6.3:1 or 7.x:1 just fine... 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 4, 2018 Super User Posted September 4, 2018 While inches per turn vary wildly between brands, and spool size definitely plays a role in the final numbers, I'm a slow(er) rel kind of guy when it comes to cranking. Like @Boomstick above, I find it easier to speed up then slow down. So 5.3:1. 5.7:1 & 6.6:1 are what I reach for in most cranking deals. That said, I do like my Revo SX - it's on my favorite jig rod. I have an old Calcutta 251 that I use for big cranks and swim baits but I don't tend to through them very often. I would love to pull the trigger on the 100 size Conquest. It is a work horse reel disguised as a work of art. 2 Quote
