Super User tcbass Posted September 2, 2018 Super User Posted September 2, 2018 I didn't want to buy a Whopper Plopper 75 because I already have plenty of Whopper Plopper 90's, 110,s and 130's. In actuality the 110 gets all of the action from me because it was the perfect mix of size, casting distance, and running properly. I thought the 90 took effort to run properly and why do that when the 110 and 130 perfectly with just reeling it in. I don't like the 130 because I use lighter gear and throwing the 130 makes it seem like I'm throwing a heavy musky lure which gets tiring after a day of casting. I have only fished alone twice this year so all of the other times i have 2 or more fisherman in my boat and whenever I go with friends we usually we have these lures tied on, 2 Whopper Ploppers, 2 Whopper Frogs, 1 Wacky Rigged Senko, and 1 nose-hooked Zoom Super Fluke the latter 2 being on spinning gear. My friend likes throwing the WP 90 while I throw the 110, always different colors. I like Munky Butt and he likes Loon. We always throw different colors. I've discovered that if 1 color is getting hit the other WP color will also get hit and if fish aren't hitting WPs one day, a color change won't matter. I think when it comes to Whopper Ploppers colors aren't as important, this may also just be a topwater thing. Well, I happened to go to Thorne Bros Fly Angler the other day and sure enough they had the Whopper Plopper 75. I picked one in Munky Butt up. Took it out to a friend's lake and missed 3 and caught a small northern. Brought it out yesterday and caught 2 smaller largemouth. I love this thing. The Whopper Plopper 75 is my new favorite Whopper Plopper. It casts as far as the 110 which is a country mile, runs true with simply reeling back, has super sharp hooks, and is lighter than the 110 so it takes less energy to use even though it performs the same as the 110. Only caught 2 small lm on the 75 yet caught a few larger bass on the Whopper Frog yesterday, so if the 75 doesn’t pull in the bigger bass over time I may have to switch back to the 110 as the 110 catches large bass. Did catch a few over 2lbs., two over 3lbs., and one over 4lbs. yesterday, so the lake yields some nice fish. I just have a feeling that it was the way it worked out yesterday and that the 75 will pull in big fish as much as the 110. If you want a Whopper Plopper the 75 won't do you wrong. Good fishin'. 2 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted September 2, 2018 Super User Posted September 2, 2018 Awesome. Just added one to my labor day TW order. Big fan of the 110 and 90, so the 75 seems like a can't-miss. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 3, 2018 Global Moderator Posted September 3, 2018 Bone colored 75 plopper is what fooled this one. It was pretty windy that day but the bait is fat so it rides over waves really nice. 1 Quote

Big Rick Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 I believe the blade on the 75 is actually larger than the blade on the 90. So, in essence, you get a shorter, fatter bait with a bigger "plop". I can't wait to get mine in either.. 1 Quote

The 75 definitely makes a great, deep, “plop, plop” sound. You hear that and go, man, that sounds like a fish catching sound....and then you get a strike. Love that sound. 1 Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted September 4, 2018 Super User Posted September 4, 2018 If you all don't quit talking about how many fish these catch I will be forced to buy one. 1 Quote

Big Rick Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Last few hours of the TW Labor Day sale. I ordered THREE this morning. Then I went to my local hole and caught a 2 pounder on my 110 in Bluegill!! Quote

Primus Posted September 8, 2018 Posted September 8, 2018 So far, I really like the 75 much better than the 90 when I need to throw a smaller Whopper Plopper. That said my first choice is 130 for most situations. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted September 8, 2018 Super User Posted September 8, 2018 My guess is that the 75 basically cannibalizes the sales of the 90. And the 90, which is a bit of a flawed lure, phases out over time... Quote

Well, this bait is a game changer. It has totally opened up a new era of fishing. I know there were a few similar baits out there, but the Whopper Plopper really zeroed in on the "plopping" sound and took the market by storm. And, it's a raging success. Kudo's to River2Sea for listening to the customer base and correcting the shortcomings on the 90 by creating the 75. The 90 will still have it's place, I'm sure, but the 75 will, by far, be the best of both worlds.... Quote

The 110 was made to fill the size between 130 and 90 but there was another problem, the 90 never seemed to run right for many folks. So, along comes the 75, basically an improved 90. No real need for the 90 anymore. I wouldn’t be surprised if sales of the 90 petered out. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 9, 2018 Global Moderator Posted September 9, 2018 I hope the 90 doesn't go anywhere, the 75 doesn't replace it at all imo. The 75 is much louder and a bigger profile, even though it's shorter. Everyone can send me their 90's and I'll dispose of them so they'll have room in their boxes for the 75's ? 1 1 Quote

I will take any 90s people don't want. Totally different lure than the 75. Doesn't "replace" the 90 at all. 1 Quote

Just my opinion and I’m not sponsored, but I pre-fished the Choppo 90 and it didn’t have the problems I’ve had with the WP 90... and costs less... maybe worth a try anyway. Quote

I've just never had these problems that people have /w the 90 and I've fished them for a few years. No reason for me to switch. Quote

The 90 would spin like a top and create major line twist. There's a delicate balance between the body of the bait and the tail. That's why the 75 is shorter yet much fatter. It's necessary to keep the body on an even keel while the bigger tail does it's magic. Quote
Derek1 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Went to bass pro for that specifically today and they didn’t have them. Was bummed out Quote
