O.K. so I been tryin out the Tatula CTs this season. And have bent the  handles on both of my reels. Never happened with my Abu reels. I'm a bigger guy 6'2 260 but always been pretty careful with my reels. Had to send one back to Daiwa because main shaft failure .

Should I jump on the Shimano train or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Just wondering if anyone had any issues with them?

Thanks Rick.

Bending them!? Can you post a pic? I have a few CTs and to bend them I would think you would need a tremendous amount of force.

First time I have read of such a thing happening, but I've only been on fishing forums since Feb. '09.  Slightly over half my reels are Daiwas.  Unfortunately none get the use I would love to see.  I guess you could use it as an excuse to upgrade your handles to a fancy aftermarket part.  :teeth:

I am Shimano guy, but Daiwa is also a really great quality product and I can't see something like that happening from normal use.

The Tatula handle assembly is a popular "after market" addition people put on other daiwa reels. Don't know what your height/weight has to do with anything unless you're using trying to fish and sit on the reel at the same time. Never heard of them bending.

Are they bending while fighting fish? What kind of fish are you fighting? I'm about the same size as you and I have a couple of Daiwas and never bent a handle.

I've only bent one handle and that was after I stepped on it when I lost my balance on the front deck.

I'm assuming your hard on your gear? Throwing stuff around? That would also explain the main shaft failure on one reel.

O.K. sooo the cause has been found. The boy said he might have stepped on them getting into boat to get his tackle bag. Annd now I look stupid. Sorry for freakin It was just one side on the one reel. Not both reels, should of verified before posting.I had to send one in for service right after I got it so now alittle gun shy I guess. But the reels are awesome so far got a lot of work this year. Cant believe handles bent though!

Thanks for the replies some made me laugh!! Especially after I reread my original post

It happens. My dad stepped on the handle of one of my curados, he’s a big boy so he ended up snapping the crankshaft. I was able to get a new one at the time for like $20, back in business. I’ve seen guys break the knobs off of handles, but those are cheaper reels.
