This winter I purchased a shimano 201kxg I started fishing with it in march and after about a months use. The gears started to grind very badly and I made a post about it back then. I sent it to Thorne Bros a Authorized Shimano reel maintenance center. I heard nothing from the company for months I called them many times. finally They answered the phone and told me the reel was gonna be a bit longer. I called back a week after They said the reel was fixed and they replaced the pinion and drive gear. They sent it back and when it returned I took it out and 4th cast I had a fish bite I set the hook and the reel free spooled  when the drag was tightened. When you would try to tightened the drag it would continue to spin and would not get tighter. I sent it to Shimano's reel repair center like I was told and I haven't heard back sense. Doesn't this seem a bit  not exceptable I have only been able to fish with a reel for a month out of the 8 months I Have owned the Reel?

That's BS. You shouldn't have to go through that. I went through that one time with a Quantam reel. After the second time BPS ate that one. I told them to deal with.

The majority of my spinning reel are Shimano. I have older Stradics, Symetres(favorite), newer Nasci and Saharas and I've never had to send anything back.

Sorry to hear it. I've never went with another Quantam again. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Can see your concern.

Definitely doesn't sound normal. Do as @J Francho suggested.

I've owned probably 50+ Shimano's over the years and I've only ever had a problem once ever (a spinning reel that wasn't assembled correctly from the factory). In that instance, Shimano paid for me to ship it back to them and they sent me out a brand new replacement.

Just kidding.  That is pretty bad customer service.  I'd definitely be calling the number Mr. Franco posted.

Thorne Bros dropped the ball. You should not have allowed them to have your reel for months without some explanation. When you call the number John gave you ask to speak with Dan (Bantam) & explain your problem with Thorns Bros. I sure Dan will get you fixed up. I have always dealt directly with Shimano in California for service & have been happy with the results.

I have two K's with no problems yet.  The gears do require a very heavy grease to prevent the "grinding" feel and Shimano recommends their ACT 2 drag grease on the micro gears.  Both have had a heavy work out so far.

Shimano has always provided me with exceptional service.

This is an extremely late response but Shimano corrected themselves and sent a brand new curado 201kxg.

Shimano makes excellent reels and they are among my favorite reels to use. Also like Penn reels.
