mother nature is confused

Here in southern Maine early fall had started. It's been cooler at night and the water temps have started to fall. however, starting yesterday and for the next couple of days summer is back. It's supposed to hit the mid 90's today and tomorrow. I was out in the yard last night and heard the peeper frogs in full chorus.

 That's only supposed to happen in the Spring. Poor little buggers won't know what hit them when the temps drop back down.

We had the same thing happen here. It might be cope's gray tree frog that you heard, they are the only ones that call consistently in the fall around here, and they sound a lot like spring peepers. Then again I have never been to Maine!

Same here in Wisco. 

This past week has been nothing but rain and cold nights. This next week is supposed to be back in the high 70's / 80's. Which is hot for Wisconsin. 

Really has the fish scattered here I think.

Overall it's been a pretty crappy year for general fishing.  I go to Wisconsin every year in August to escape the Virginia heat and this year it was 85-90 every day for a week and the water temp was 81-83.  Fishing was tough.  Here in Virginia it's been Africa Hot with high humidity when it's not raining typhoon style.  The grass beds on the Potomac have been decimated in the main river and the silt and constant muddy water have taken their toll on the grass in the creeks and coves not to mention the amount of Flotsam and Jetsam coming down the river just looking for my prop and LU.  Going to try another river this weekend and see if a change in scenery helps.

Some places here and there have been fishing good this year (like Florida and Michigan according to reports from this site!) but most of the spots I frequent have been slower than usual. I know some places where fish are biting but they are too far to fish often. Overall I have had the same luck as you this year: lots of current, tough Fishing, and I broke a lower unit

I can attest to the fishing in Michigan.  I spent a week on Lake St Clair in May and it was stellar.  Went to a river other than the Potomac last weekend (the Rappahanock) and the external temp sensor on my buddys boat read 114 all day long.  We ROASTED but we caught fair numbers of fish.  We are going back this weekend if we don't get clobbered by the latest hurricane predicted to hit the East coast.
