Located in Prince George:

Got this favorite rod which the reel seat nut that seems to come loose when I tight it. I have tried everything to make it stay on with plumber tape and tape on it. I know its a long shot but might need to look for a new rod or replace it. It's a good skipping rod that I like to use (JB Custom Rod). I thought about making this a "Winter Project" by doing it myself by getting some components from mudhole.

1) How do I determine the reel seat's size to go on that rod ?

2) Is there a local or rod builder that can replace it. What would be the average price on that ?

Thanks in advance.

Replacing reel seats is not a trivial task, so it won't be cheap.  Have you tried tightly wrapping the threads with electrical tape, then running the nut over the tape?  Or simply using many very tight wraps of electrical tape right onto the reel foot, with the nut backed off?

Check into Toms Custom Rods. He is an artist and very fair.  He is located up in Bel Air MD  just a run up 95 from you.

Plan to allocate extra time when you meet Tom. He is one of the most amazing artist of a rod builder.  Ask questions and look at some of his work to determine what you want as he has tons of parts in stock to work with.  I always enjoy spending time with him.
