Boat trailer bunk carpet.

I'm re doing my trailer bunks and have 2x4 bunks on my bass boat trailer. Would I get the 8" wide or 12" wide carpet? Thanks!

To wrap the carpet completely around a 2x4 you would need 10" so 12" is your answer

You need to see how your bunks are set up now. On my trailer the original bunks had a gap between the carpet edges on the bottom side. I have replaced mine twice and set them up same way. If you need to leave a gap the 8" carpet will be fine. If you close them up completely you will probably tear the carpet up drilling holes in them for the bolts that hold them in place.

Thanks! Ya on mine the carpet is wrapped all the way around. I mean i could just cut out a spot where the bolts go in.

Before replacing the carpet check out these covers instead. I have used them on several trailers and prefer them. Just one word of advice they are slick, so wait till you are at the water's edge to disconnect the front winch strap. You do not your boat to slide off.

I believe they also have them in black.  Just give them a call.  Using these they attach with short screws from the sides and your bunks will not rot from water soaked carpet.

The gap in carpet is left on the bottom of your bunks to allow the water to drain out and keep your bunk wood from prematurely rotting.  Use either stainless staples or monel staples to secure the carpet to the bunks but not on the surface of the bunks.

Agree with @TOXIC leave the bottoms open and use staples.  I just had to redo a bunk that got stripped out; I just fold the ends like wrapping a xmas gift.

You can get suitable carpet  scraps from a carpet store, Home Depot,  Lowes etc for much less than precut strips at a marine supplier.
