What rod to cast Deeper Pro+?

It finally happened - bro and I bought a Deeper Pro+.  Problem is, we weren't really equipped to fully utilize it and were pretty... scared... with it today.  lol  Last thing I wanted was to Center Field to Home Plate that thing and have the 6lb P-line we had snap and lose a $200 piece of equipment (I did think to buy 100ft of 550 cord but pulling the guts out of 100ft of paracord is a right pain in the ass, so I gave up on it).

 

The Deeper Pro+ weighs 3.5oz.  We want as cheap a spinning rod as possible that can bomb this baby around.  We're looking at getting some 50lb braid to tie on so we don't lose it on that either (unless you guys have a different suggestion).  We're also going to use my spare Okuma reel, so all we need is the rod.

 

I was thinking Ugly Stik but they're a bit expensive in that lure-range.  Anything you can offer as guidance is appreciated!

I throw my Deeper Pro on a Mojo Inshore rod designed for 1-3oz lures. The rod doubles as my heavy jig, Carolina rig, and heavy swimbait rod. I forget what specific reel is on it at the moment, but it is a spinning reel with 30lbs 832 on it. 

 

It is a half side arm cast is all I do as it takes nothing to get the Deeper flying to center field. 

 

There was a discussion on here about rigging a float to the Deeper should it snap, so a topwater treble bait can snag it to drag it back. Probably overkill, but doubled up 30lb 832 with the biggest float I could find at the local fishing store. It hasn't snapped, but it is ready just in case it were to ever happen. I've tossed the Deeper and float out to test it one day when I was on a boat, just incase I wasn't able to snag it. No issues retrieving it, and I found a shallow running 2-4' crankbait worked a little better than a topwater lure.

Braid on a spinning rod throwing heavy lures sucks, you’ll definitely get cut at some point and it burns. I throw my iBobber on a cheap $50 spinning combo rated for 1-8oz lures and switching to braid was a big mistake.

I’d go mono but it’s up to you, I’ve pulled some lures outta trees with 20# mono. Trees are about the only thing you have to worry about with your sonar.

It floats (no rocks or zebra mussel concerns), and no fish should be getting their teeth on it. Unless youre casting this thing into trees and other cover above the surface you should have no abrasion concerns.

Penn makes a few affordable saltwater rods that will cast that thing.  The Mariner and the Rampage come to mind.  The can go for around $40-$65 depending on the size.

Don't laugh at me but I do mine differently. I just use a medium powered spinning rod with 8-10 lb line. What I do differently is instead of using the rod to throw the deeper, I open the bail and throw the deeper like a baseball. I find that I can get plenty of range and with great accuracy. The only down side is that the deeper tends to spin a bit during flight. But that hasn't been a big issue yet. It saves me from having to buy an extra rod for the deeper.

Tied on with some Trilene 40lb catfish line in bright green.  Working well thus far but you don't get much line on a 2500 size Okuma reel!  

 

I think I'm going to downsize to some 30lb braid as mentioned above so I can get more line on the reel and cast it out further.

Heading up to columbus today to pick up a suit.  Might swing by cabelas and see if they have any of the whuppin sticks in the appropriate range.
