WVU-SCPA Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Does anyone have experience on cleaning up a boat for resale? I stumbled across a 2011 bass tracker pro team 175 tf that hasn't left it's garage in over 2 years. Not a boat I really want or need, but for the asking price of $5,500 I'm struggling to pass on it. Boat is in overall good shape and has electronics of value. Am I forgetting any cost other than maintenance and transfer cost? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 20, 2018 Super User Posted August 20, 2018 If it's what you say it is, it's $10k all day for that boat. Might have to hang on to it until spring, though. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted August 20, 2018 Super User Posted August 20, 2018 The motor and trailer may be worth that Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted August 20, 2018 Super User Posted August 20, 2018 Motor, fuel lines and fuel tanks would be my biggest concern. Those are the things that "sitting" affects. Quote
JLBBass Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 if everything checks out, it's well worth the $5,500 asking price. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted August 20, 2018 Super User Posted August 20, 2018 Depends on your boat and motor knowledge. Sitting that long, as a minimum the fuel system should be flushed and cleaned, the water pump needs replaced, sitting that long it will have a pretty good set on the blades, most likely it will need new batteries, either by the seller or buyer. This could be over $1,000 if a shop has to do the work. Quote
WVU-SCPA Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 Thank you for the input, notes taken. I don't see a reason for it not reselling for 9k+, so a grand or two into it might be worth it. Quote

Mikeltee Posted August 21, 2018 Posted August 21, 2018 Brand new or even used the saying is all the same... A boat is just a hole in the water that we throw our hard earned money in. Especially the "good deals"! 1 Quote
kenmitch Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Why hasn't it left the garage in 2yrs is probably a question I'd ask the seller. You didn't mention anything about the why part. Quote
WVU-SCPA Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 That's the other dilemma. It's a friend of a friend that has reach the age where they haven't been able to use the boat. He isn't actively searching for a buyer, but I feel morally responsible to tell him my plans if I buy the boat. Quote

Offer to act as his agent to sell the boat, and take a 20% commission on the sale price over $5,500. Quote
