Super User Tin Posted February 22, 2008 Super User Posted February 22, 2008 For the price, warranty, and durability, nothing comes close to Everstart imo. Quote
bassdocktor Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 beastieboy you really need to talk with your dealer or whoever sold you the batteries. I had a simialr problem when I first got my boat. Had 3 brand new Trojans and the starting battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few hours. Turned out that it had a bad cell and they just swapped it out. It'd be worth talking with the dealer/seller. Quote
fishizzle Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I use Sears trolling batt.--the midsize one they last 3 years, I fish every weekend all day--believe me I beat on these things I always have 2 in the boat b/c its my only source of power $70 each , I'm on my 8th one Quote
Rick Cargo Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I currently have Duralast batteries in my boat. Going on 6 years for the main battery and 5 years on the trolling motor batteries. A little trick I learned from an old guy some years ago (he was alot older than me) was when purchasing new batteries take your volt meter into the store and test each battery until you find the highest voltage one and if the voltage is high enough for you then buy it. He said that the voltage will never be higher than the original voltage of the battery when you buy it. Even after a good charge. I have found this to be true. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 23, 2008 Super User Posted February 23, 2008 Beastieboy, It is nice knowing that Trojan makes other products, like trolling motor batteries. I had no idea. Some of the guys in my bass club swear by the Wal-Mart trolling batteries. I think it is a matter of preference. If you are used to going into a store and buying your Trojans and then checking out with a wink and a smile, then you can do that. If you want to purchase other brands then that is OK, too. Just make sure they don't leak. I mean, leak in the boat. I mean, like get a good brand name that will last and not cause you future problems. Future problems can be very time consuming and expensive. Plus the fact that you have to explain them to others, like your parents. I mean when you have to get the boat fixed from the leakage. And make sure they fit OK. Like they are not too big. Batteries do come in different sizes so make sure yours fits snug. In the boat. Snug in the boat. And that it will not slip around when you are using it. Like on the water when the boat is running. Or come off. You always want to secure it to the boat so it does not come off and move around. So go out and get your Trojans or other brands and make sure they are fresh and are ready to go. Have good time and be safe. Be safe on the water is what I mean. Gettng good performance from your Trojans. I mean with your trolling motor. Or whatever. ;D Quote
Al Wolbach Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Trojan is one of the best if not the best. I suggest you take that battery back to the dealer to find the problem. If it is the battery they will probably replace it......................Al Quote
surfer Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Whats the best lasting starting and trolling batteries? A well maintained battery will beat a poorly maintained battery every time no mater the brand name. Learn the dos and don'ts of battery maintenance and any battery will last 5 years. Quote
