Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 20, 2018 Super User Posted August 20, 2018 Recent trends show specialty FC and braided lines to be the current rage - however I read that at this year's ICAST show the above subject line from Sufix drew a lot of pro's attention : First it claims 50% less stretch , better knots , better sensitivity and better manageability than prior mono lines and comes in a new low - visibility green color . At the lower test lb. ranges #6 & #8 I looked at it was very close in size (slightly thinner) than Yo-Zuri Hybrid but not quite as thin as Seaguar or Sunline FC lines in the same sizes . I see this line could possibly fill a niche for fishermen wanting to move away from FC line but don't want to use a braded line . As for me , I plan to test against a couple of copoly lines (YZ Hybrid & Spiderwire Ultimate Mono) to see how I like the knot strength , sensitivity and overall behavior of this new line . *At 50% less price than FC lines it may be attractive enough to use in other applications than the typical top water usage ... Your thoughts ? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 20, 2018 Global Moderator Posted August 20, 2018 I use mono for a lot of applications, topwater isn't one of them but a lot of others like cranks, moving single hooked baits, as well as some jigs and T-rigs. It has my interest and I'll probably be trying some. Quote
PatrickKnight Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 I run all braid main lines but 75% of time if I am using a leader its mono. I will be giving it shot to see how it works. Quote
Brad in Texas Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 Though I don't think I saw it listed for sale in this smallest size anywhere yet, it is also supposedly available in 4# test strength. And, not only in green but a clear color, too. I mentioned this elsewhere that the supposed advantage of this co-polymer is that it embeds little lengths of the material used to make most braids into the line. This is the "co" in co-polymer and makes sense knowing that many materials do something similar, e.g. concrete using re-bar or glass fibers to enhance strength. These braid fibers are magnetically drawn to the outside area of the line as it is extruded. Sounds interesting. The real test will be a bunch of us trying it in diverse circumstances. I want to give it a go on one of my ultralight reels, not much of a test there except how it handles, so likely on one bass set-up, too. Brad Quote
PatrickKnight Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 My main concern is how well does it hold up to rocks. That's why I use Yo-zuri Hybrid and Maxima Ultragreen so much is because those lines hold up really well around rocks and even zebra muscles when I take a trip up to northern Ohio. Seems people are making a big deal about how thick it is but according to tackle warehouse its the same at most lb tests as Hybrid and Stren Original, with being just slightly thicker than Ultragreen. As far as cost goes it seem to be about the same as the Ultragreen. Quote
Hulkster Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 its the same thickness for all tests as Sufix Elite and Siege (which I love) until you get to 20 pound test, then its 0.020 instead of 0.018 inches. I love Siege for both casting and spinning gear but I am interesting in trying this for the low stretch properties.. Quote
diehardbassfishing Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 I'm not impressed. I purchased it AFTER (by bad luck) seeing the Youtube review. My main reason to get this new Sufix line (14 lb) was the claim of 50% less stretch. The video quickly threw cold water on that claim. After purchasing the line, I don't see it either. Now after about 6 outings, the line looks and feels "old". The line is coming off the spool of my baitcaster sorta "kinky". Not loose coils that slowly work their way out, but irregular coils I can only describe as kinky. And the line feels old when passed through my fingers. Irregular, not smooth. Sticking with my Stren 14 lb... Karl Quote
Hulkster Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 hmm...maybe I'll just stick with Sufix Siege as well.. Quote

Yeah, I'm a sucker for new and improved line. I was going to wait until some reviews came out but I needed some line for my pitching rod and went ahead and pulled the trigger on some 17 lb Advanced. Low stretch and sensitive sure, but the third time out it had a lot of memory like you mentioned. If lower stretch mono is your thing, I'd stick with Yozuri Hybrid or Stren Magnathin. YMMV Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted August 20, 2018 Super User Posted August 20, 2018 No interest here. My general opinion is that any time they try and mix two distinctly different materials to create one great new one (line), the results are mediocre at best, and you usually end up with a line that does nothing great, but a lot of things just 'OK.' I much prefer the actual parent material where appropriate. Not what I'm after with my fishing, but am open to trying eventually if I hear good feedback from a few trusted souls...not holding my breath though 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 20, 2018 Super User Posted August 20, 2018 As the price of fishing line (and everything else) goes up, mono has remained unchanged thus relatively inexpensive. This looks like a proven way to change that and drive up the price. Few brands could get away with simply bumping up the asking price for an unchanged product without / unless they were offering something more. So let's mess with it a little, re-name it, re-package it, and spend some money on advertising. History indicates we should do well. And if we do it right, we can set a new higher price standard for what has traditionally been one of the least expensive but most needed items in the sport. While I'm a fan of a few of Sufix's products, and they are not even close to being alone with this mind set, I'm not seeing it. I will say however that Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo Nylon Line is pretty $$ when compared to most all mono line - but I use & like it quite a bit. Don't use mono a ton (except for backing) but when I do - I'm spooling this. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 20, 2018 Author Super User Posted August 20, 2018 I will say - besides the YZ Hybrid line I mentioned earlier as a co-poly example , I have used the Ultra Green in #10 lb. before and was impressed with knot strength, handling and the color disappeared quite well in the reservoirs I fish ... *Perhaps I'll wait a bit as Team9nine indicated BEFORE I go out and buy like 4 different line sizes - as I did with the brand new P-Line Floroclear thinking I found a bargain FC line replacement ... Most of us know how P-Line Floroclear turned out (lol !) Quote

A-Jay Maybe if they shorted the name a little they could lower the price with all the ink savings for the packaging;) It is great line but the lack of filler spools is annoying as is 11lbs being the lowest weight it’s offered in. Other then those nitpicks, I have no complaints with it. I fish 12lb Invizx as my “standard” bass line and the Defier Armilo handles very very close to it. 1 Quote
