BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 27, 2018 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 27, 2018 I fished over 150 tournaments as a back-seater for 12 years before I could finally afford a (small) boat. I could tell plenty of horror stories boat owners did, as many of them had less experience than me (I started bass fishing when I was 3 years old). On the other hand, there were plenty more that were great partners. So it all evened out in the end. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted January 15, 2019 Super User Posted January 15, 2019 I told this one on an old thread, but it's been long enough now I can re-tell it. When I was in my late teens, early 20s, I had a friend... (crazy mel ) that was a few years younger than me. He was actually a decent fisherman. One day we were out and he noticed my rod and reel combo ( that I had caught my PB on.) Without any warning he picked it up and said " Is this an ugly stik " , as he bent the rod tip to butt like they used to do in the commercial . SNAP went the rod. I could not say a word. I could not move. All I could do was give him the stare down. He jumped out of the boat and swam to shore without saying a word. He ended up giving me his sorry rod. Another time he decided to see how it would be to put two big chews of red man in, one in each cheek. After awhile I realized he hadnt said anything in a while ( he was normally very talkative ) I turned to see what was up and he was green. ?About that time he barfed. I put him out on an island until he got to feelin better. 2 Quote
Shane Y Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 First tournament I've ever fished in i was the back seater....the guy with the boat was a good guy that I used to work with and hadn't seen in some years. We happened to stumble across each other at a friends get together, talked about fishing and he asked if I wanted to fish as his partner in the morning. When I showed up he was beside himself that I didnt have a baitcasting setup. I caught more fish than he did that day though.... 2 Quote

The fly fishermen like to sneer at me for using an ultralight spinning setup as if I'm cursed or something lol Quote

It wasn't a tournament. Just an outing. But one guy I know was talking up going fishing one evening. He gets my fishing juices flowing. I express that I'd rather go in the evening but he wants to go out in the morning before it gets hot. Oh, and he wants to use MY boat (instead of his). So I'm like "okay, whatever." The morning arrives. I get up at the butt crack of dawn (like 4:00 am.), load the boat, have it all ready and sitting on the street so all he has to do is pull up and transfer his gear into it. I wait and I wait and I wait.... Around 6:00 a.m. I get a call: "I over slept. Just now getting up...blah blah blah." grrrrrrrrrr I don't suffer fools very gladly! This is why I have people meet me at ther ramp. They don't show I go fishing. Quote
