Any light weight, loose fitting, button up non-cotton shirt from Simms, Columbia, etc.

Sleeves that roll up and button.

Vented back.

Light colors.

Built in insect repellent (Buzz Off, etc.) is a bonus, and really works well.

I picked up an ExOfficio Air Strip Shirt from Sierra Trading Post.  With coupons and some bonus bucks I got it for $25.  It's nice but maybe a little too nice for getting fish guts and sweat all on it.  The original price was $90.  I think for the price after looking around, I couldn't go wrong.  I will definitely be looking into a few of the above suggestions, especially Orvis since we have an Orvis store near by.

What are you guys using to keep the sun at bay without getting cooked?

I personally appreciate this thread : I now have to go to the Demonologist twice a year to have pre-cancerous spots removed from my arms , back of hands , head , face and ears . Usually the total is "in the teens"  now with respect to the number of spots burned off or if bad enough - cut out ... Last year was 37 spots removed in 12 months . Just last week I was "delighted" that I left with ONLY six spots that had to be burned off leaving the areas  mentioned above swollen discolored or blistered . Even when the areas heal - the first thing people do when they meet me is stare at my discolored  / disfigured hands and arms . I'm in my early 60's now and did a poor job of sun scree protection when younger on the water in Florida and now have the above regiment to look forward to the rest of my life . **I urge all my Bass Brothers here to please not be a knuckle head like I was in my youth - cover up !  The information regarding skin cancer is plentiful now as well as sun protected clothing and topical lotions are abundant ... Don't be :  "That guy" - don't be like me .

All fishermen should cover up. Even if you don't get skin cancer, the sun can do a lot of damage to your skin. And you're absolutely right, everyone should see their dermatologist at least once a year.

*Don't want to sound like I was on a soapbox or anything - past military culture being "it's about the person on the left and right of you" mindset ... Accentuating the positive - lots of great products out there to block the sun being manufactured now  ! ... I like a loose  collard button down short sleeve sun block shirts(currently Magellan Laguna Madre brand)  , arm sleeves and gloves along with either a Buff or wide brim Tommy Biffle hat topped off with polarized sun glasses or auto photo gray UV glasses early or late in the day . *Form fitting sun block shirts don't work for me - makes me look like a "save the whales" promotion .

Sams club has had several fishing shirt dispays this summer with a couple nice button up shirts.  Haven't been in a few weeks, but if you go there anyway...might look around for them.

The Bass Pro catalog outlet had a bunch of clearance fishing shirts the last time I was in there.  I have bought them there from $11-30 depending on the brand.  It might be worth checking them out.

I don’t wear a specific brand, I bet mine from yard sales and thrift stores. I don’t cry the blues when I mess one up. I have been wearing a lot of the button up type,  got long and short sleeve.

Oooo I love old threads

I have a magellan/mossy oak combo brand shirt that I love a lot, vented pits, and the little emo thumb holes for protecting the tops of your hands (and also showing Mom that it really isnt 'just a phase'). I have been totally unable to find a second one. I don't think they even make this type anymore. One of the few synthetics that actually keeps cool. Otherwise it's a very lightweight cotton t shirt, added sun sleeves for long days.

I’m partial to AFTCO shirts for one primary reason… their shirt sleeves are about an inch longer than other brands. So when you cast, you don’t end up with that inch of exposed skin on your wrist/forearm. Used to get a little red line of burned skin there each trip, but not now?

I like the Simms because of their hidden but large pair of pockets.  If not full of stuff, you don't even see the pockets, so the shirts are good looking as opposed to those with big, floppy, exposed, pockets.  Nicely detailed fine plaids look good as well as very functional.

I wear Columbia shirts. I have a very lightweight Patagonia base layer that is hooded and long sleeved and that’s my go to.

I wear cotton t shirts a lot too.  The problem with them is that they wear out so dang quick after you wash them a few times.  And they shrink.  I have to buy them in XXL.

SIMMS.  zero other options for me.  i cant stand those sythentic hoodies, but i have a few.  i dont stink but i dont smell great after a long day in the sun.

i like button ups, so i can wear them elsewhere if needed.   like hiking trips, backyard bbq parties.  50upf and nobody knows.  i have several of the older BIG SKY shirts.  wear gloves because you will look odd naked with a white torso and brown hands.  :D

Ive owned a grip of them over the years.

Best that Ive found are HUK and Simms. Aftco is not bad.

Im sure there is alot of crud out there but so far the only company that was NOT worth the money due to fit, shrinking, and cheap construction was Columbia.

Aquaflage has lots of good options. I use their shirts primarily.
