Shimano Curado Dc review

I bought the Curado Dc 8:5 gear ratio.  I have taken it out on 3 night trips fishing shallow water. I paired it with a  Phenix Maxim 6 10 medium heavy rod 1/8 to 3/4 ounce. I’ve been tossing a 1/8 Texas rigged paca craw and have been smoking the large jaws.  

 

The only thing I don’t like about the reel is the weight.  It’s 7.8 ounces maybe. Which isn’t even that big of deal.  I recommend this real but I will say I do like my team lews custom pro  speed spool just a little better.

Same reason I stay on the fence about my Curado Ks. The weight is very noticeable to me.

I like the heavier reels, to me It feels more comfortable and solid in my hands. I like that little bit weight in the palm of my hand.

The slightly heavier reels help balance out a lot of rods too.

I heard a guy at a local shop one day complaining about the K being heavy. The employee pointed out the Casitas weighed one ounce lighter. The guy threw his head back and said no way he was buying a plastic reel. I just walked away laughing at the irony.

12-13oz combo. Ooh my wrist ?

Has to be a 5.5oz reel with a 3oz rod to not be considered heavy these days.

Haha I wasn’t complaining. I said it wasn’t that big of a deal. I just like my lews better. I would totally buy another dc though

I dont mind the weight so much, as I dislike the bulk of my Curado Ks. I have small hands and have an assortment of MGX and ALX reels, then I pick up my rod with a curado k on it and it feels massive. It is one smoooooooooth reel though.

You're kind of comparing apples to oranges with this statement.  The Curado is actually one of the lighter and smallest profile DC reels.  Most of the previous DC reels especially the Antares and Excense are tanks.  Generally consumers who look at DC reels are not focusing on weight, at least not in the first 14 years since the tech has been out in Japan.  

 

I hear you though, if you are used to fishing a Lew's which are known to make some very light streamlined reels the Curado is going to be a bit of an increase in regards to size and weight.  But what about the sound?  That's all I want out of a DC reel.

 

I don't think anyone's intentions were to start drama.  I'd wager most of the comments in jest about 7.8 oz being heavy remember the days of baitcasters 20-30 years ago that were all well over that weight.  I use my Lew Childre reel occasionally and it feels like an engine piston on my rod now after being spoiled with today's tech.  I also used to walk 10 miles through the snow to get to school, and then 10 miles to get home.  Both ways were also uphill somehow.

 

I give it 15 years before bass rigs are a weightless rod filled with hydrogen with the line contained inside it no casting or reeling.

Years ago most reels were heavier, I remember a few of my favorites were nearly 10 ozs. Never thought twice about it because that was the norm. Can I handle a heavy reel without going to the gym? Yep. After fishing today's smaller, lighter reels do I want to? Nope.

I think everyone took this wrong.  The weight doesn’t bother me at all.  Everyone has an opinion.  That’s the only thing I didn’t like about the reel but I’m fine with the weight.   I too use to throw some heavy reels back in the day.   Funny you mentioned the sound.  I guess there is 2 things I’m not crazy about. It’s pretty loud lol.  Even when one clicks it.  I will say an angler will get more fishing time in not dealing with loose line. That I love.  It’s my second favorite reel.  Highly recomend  it.  I just recomend the team lews custom pro a fraction bit more.

The MGX is abu right? How do you like those reels?

If the K is too big for ya, try curado 70 and if you don't mind the sub 8oz weight get bantam MGL. Other wise wait for new 70 (k?) with micro module gear.

This is totally just presumption or speculation and if they do put micro module gears you might have to wait a while I don’t think shimano is in a rush to bring out anything new at the moment I think their in top rite now, as far as with their main competitors. 

Its either micro module gears or an mgl spool in the future I presume, but definitely not both.

@Burrowsyup it pure base on my speculation, but it is a trend, a very popular trend. Chornarch got micro module, K got micro module gear, new bantam also with micro module gear. New Daiwa reels also feature Hyper mesh gear (similar to micro module gear). It's just a matter of when. 

Actually micro module gear already feature in 70 series body (check Engetsu reel).
