1st ever swimbait jackall ganteral jr

Been watching lots of videos on swimbait fishing and the tackle store actually had 2 of these left so I thought I would try one out. It’s the jacksll ganteral JR in the spawn gill color .. anyone ever have any luck with them ? They look amazing. Trying to get into the swimbait fishing to catch bigger fish in ny area.

Great bait. Play with different retrieves - stop/go, slow/fast etc. They will tell you what they want. Beware of the catfish - they love this bait lol!

How is it now during summer? I fish mainly small lakes like 50-150 acres is the biggest. Has decent depth to 20 ft range. Lots of weeds and lily pads. Some isolated grass. Do they still attack during summer as good as it would be during spawn? @1201vilbig I’m going to try it out tomorrow if it doesn’t rain.  Figured I would try bunch of retrieves. Straight, twitches, pauses etc. how deep does it go without any weight on the front tie ?

I don't throw swimbaits an awful lot in the summer, but I will fish the Gantarel and Gantarel Jr. around laydowns or edges of weeds. I honestly pitch and flip them more often than I swim them. Give it a sharp jerk and some slack and it'll do a 180 degree turn. If you're looking for a great bait for burning in the summer, I'd highly recommend the Jackall Gantia

I can get a gantarel jr to almost reach 270 degrees rotation when giving it slack but it will usually snag your line for a second.

 

I did a small video with gantarel jr in small ponds.  Some days they hammer it and some days they dont.  Problem with swimbaits like this is that it may seem like they dont want it but on your last cast you will catch a 6 pounder.  It is a gamble.

Well I have never used any swimbait a before so this is a start of something good hopefully.

It can be exciting especially when you have a follower.  Keep a senko tied on to toss near them

Yea, I used mine a ton in small ponds and some days they would just smash it, but others they would just follow it to the bank and back off.  

 

Sadly my Jr is now stuck to a log in 5-6’ of water with 2-3’ of mud under it.  Still trying to figure out if I can get it back.

You'll love it. Just make sure you fish it on heavy line, tie your knots carefully, etc. ?

Too much goose poop for me to even think about that.  I can't even wear my shoes back into the house without a rinse in the yard when I fish this spot.  I have a snagging hook around here somewhere and like 50' of amsteel, I think that is what I am going to try first.  

 

In any case, I will be buying another one, it was a pretty productive lure, but I think I might try lighter wire hooks on my next one.  I feel like some of the bass that have come off on me were not hooked super well and I want to see if that will help any.  I rarely manage a bass large enough to really choke it and a lot of the ones I do land are hooked on the outside edge of the mouth.

If they are feeding on Bluegill, it will work period.

Well the lakes I fish don’t have Shad that I know of.. bluegill , pumpkinseed, perch and brook trout are the main species.  Brook trout is actually stocked every year with 1-2 yr old trout and some fingerlings.  So I thought about getting a lite trout colored S -waver and throwing that around also

There are few things that rival the thrill of steadily retrieving a glide/swim bait and you feel that tell-tale tap of a fish smacking at the bait but not getting hooked.  Two quick reels or a nice jerk to get the glide bait to do a 180 and WHAM.

 

So satisfying to be able to manipulate the lure in a way that really cranks the bass up!

 

I don't have a Gantarel, but I have had really good luck with my S-Waver 168.  Wanting to spend more time throwing the 200 around in the future

Works great with the rotating line tie. Should you try it, make sure you use the larger turbo blade. I first tried the regular blade and it really didn't have an effect, but with the larger blade, she thumps.

Thanks. I may try a regular blade on the Jr.  See how that looks- This big boy bait is a bit much for my waters and I have not caught one on it yet.

I had one in my box for like 2 months before I was finally able to bring myself to throw a $30 bait ?

 

my my goodness I wish I had started throwing it sooner. It doesn’t matter that it’s big, I’ve caught largemouth smaller than the bait up to a 3.5 pounder so far. It’s so much fun. So far I’ve had the best success with a stop and go retrieve. When they’re biting it they just absolutely destroy it.

It's a good bait if they are keying on gills that size.

 

Otherwise, for me, I prefer the regular sized one or a different gill bait such as a Hardgill from Mattlures.
