I'm using bait but not all the time it works. Should I change up. I'm using squid and Sand flea's. Anything else only catch cat fish.

In most of Los Angeles city lakes, the easiest thing to catch is hepatitis C.

Is that what's in the photo ?

Lmao, I was going to suggest, nightcrawler on a #6 snelled eagle claw hook with one bb sized split shot on 8lb test medium light spinning combo.

This is an older thread now, just noticed it. Are you trying to catch catfish?

The best channel catfish bait I have used over the years is fresh cut mackerel rigged on a lake rig. Lake; sliding 1/2 oz Egg sinker and size 2 bait holder hook, 1" square piece of mackerel meat with skin.

If you want to catch other species like bass on bait then use a live Canadian nightcrawler on the same rig with size 4  or 6 bait holder hook.

SoCal has some excellent public lakes; Castaic, Casitas, Piru, Pyramid, Puddingstone, Irvine for examples.
