I need help deciding on this rod.

I'm trying to decide on which rod to get for a dedicated Ned Rig setup. I can't decide on whether or not I should get the 6'6" ML/F (1/16oz-5/16oz) or the 6'6" M/F (1/8oz-3/8oz). Please note that I only want opinions on those two rods. Thank you. The rod is the Lew's Laser SG1:

If I get the ML, it will get a size 25 President. If I get the M, it will get a size 30 President.

 

I use the 1/15oz and 1/10oz ShroomZ jigheads and Finesse TRD plastics exclusively. I fish the Ned Rig in rivers for Smallmouth and the occasional Largemouth that hits it. I may use 1/20oz ShroomZ jigheads at some point.

If it matters, according to my calculations, the total weight of a 1/20oz, 1/15oz, or 1/10oz head and TRD is roughly 1/6oz, 1/5oz, and 1/4oz. Earlier in the year I picked up a M/F 2 piece Pflueger Monarch combo to beat up at the river with the Ned Rig. It's now time to expand to something a little more suitable and durable.

I would do the ML/F if it's a dedicated Ned Rig rod. I've tried a Ned Rig on a M/F and it just feels better on the ML/F, to me. I've had a number of the Pflueger Presidents and prefered the 25 size on whatever rod I paired them with, medium light or medium. Hope that helps. GL.

I second this... for the real light stuff I break out my 6-6 ML/fast carbonlite. It'll toss a ned out there pretty decently. My medium powered rods just won't cut it. I own 2 medium Lews (not the laser) and neither one seems to like something as light as a ned.

Well I already had ths combo but the rig I use is a G Loomis IMX 6 SJR721. It was customized with a split grip set from Winn and I matched it with an Okuma RTX 30. I had a Pflueger President size 30 but the RTX is so light, I fell in love with it. The reel seat we chose was a Comfort grip I believe it was from American Tackle, I forget.  Anyway that is a 6 foot ml fast spinning rod rated as 1/16 to 5/16 rod. I also did the same mod to my G Loomis SJR722, which is another 6 foot fast action spinning rod as well.  It is rated for lures weighing 1/8 to 3/8.  I much prefer the ML. The 722 has a Pflueger President 30 and both have Berkley Original Fireline braid in 14 pound test (6 pound mono equivalent). I run a 5 foot leader of P Line CXX 6 or 8 pound test. I also fill all my reels half way with Stren mono as backing. It cuts the cost of the braid. I get two reels filled with one filler spool.  I think the ML would be the best way to go.  By the way I chose those 6 foot rods years ago when my rod locker could only handle a 6 foot rod LOL.  I really love the rods and if you need to skip a light bait under aq dock man they work great too.

Ok, so now that we have a consensus on this ML rod, my next question is, do you all think the lure rating is good, or should I get a ML with a lure rating of 1/8oz-X?

I use 1/15oz and 1/10oz + TRD on a ML/F rod with the same ratings as what you list above and it works fine.

My ML is rated down to 1/16 oz but a 1/8 would probably be okay so long as that rating is accurate to what the rod will load.

Went a different route on the rod. Placed my order for a decent Ned Rig setup.
