Drying wet boxes

It’s been a wet summer here in eastern Pennsylvania. I have an aluminum that doesn’t have waterproof compartments. After a trip, I take all of my boxes out, spread them across my garage floor, open them up and hope they dry before the rust sets in. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. 

 

Does anyone one have any tips on drying your wet boxes and gear? I’ve read about the Flambeu ZRust boxes. Do they actually work?

I suppose I can just drill my own holes?

Yep does the same thing.

Make sure you have a sharp bit. Have a 2x4 or something under what you are drilling to support and keep from cracking.  In the end it is a pain and takes a while.

Z rust does work I use a lot of flambeau boxes, but flambeau doesn’t make certain styles of boxes like Plano or bass mafia so I use bullfrog rust inhibitors instead on those boxes I, like most of us, put a lot into my tackle and I make sure they don’t rust. I’ve had it happpen before so I’m on it nowadays.

You could also try waterproof boxes.  They have gaskets that seal out water and are not very expensive.   Buy a couple for your cranks, terminal, etc.

This 100%.  I switched a few years ago, and rust is a thing of the past.  The only thing I use a waterproof container for is my wallet, keys, etc.  Something I'll never need to open when it's wet.  Waterproof boxes only trap water in, and then you have to leave them out to dry before closing them.

I tried, spend the extra couple dollars and save yourself the hours of your life you'll spend drilling all those little holes in all your boxes. I'm going to switch all mine over, tired of rusted hooks, could have bought them MANY times over from all the hooks and split rings I've replaced.

Don't drill, use a soldering iron, much cleaner.

I got a pack of water absorbing silicone from Amazon for pretty cheap.  Have put a few of those in each of my WP Flambeaus and so far no issue with wetness
