So I researched briefly and now know that braid can cause noise issues.

i just got a new pflueger president reel and have used it three times. I’m freaking out and want to make sure that I shouldn’t exchange it. I’m using powerpro 20lb braid.  An example that sounds EXACTLY the same is in the following video.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

That zipper like noise? That's absolutely normal with 4 carrier braid like power pro, and one of the reasons that I'm not a big fan of 4 carrier braid.

Does it only make the noise while retrieving the line? casting? Does it FEEL ok during operation?

Yes the zipper like noise occurs only during retrieving.  It feels good during operation and no noise during casting.  I read that Daiwa makes a quieter braid. I’m wondering if I should switch to that. Thank you so much  for the reply, I’m already feeling better!

It's the braid coming through the guides most likely. Sufix 832 is a fantastic 8 carrier braid, I use that and daiwa j-braid 8x for my spinning reels. I enjoy both, the 832 holds a knot better, but the x8 feels smoother in the hand. Both are comparatively super quiet.

The power pro, while noisy is a great performer though. It won't let you down, but it may get on your nerves.

All braided lines that have a coating will make this noise. If you watch the fishing shows on tv, you'll hear this noise almost every time an angler is reeling in a fish. It's worse when you have tension on the line, such as when you have a fish on. This noise drives me crazy, that's why I use Daiwa Samurai or J braid, both are 8 strand and silent.

I hate that noise, you can try a different type of line that is similar to braid like Gliss it doesn’t make that noise. @roadwarrior sent me a spool To try out last December and it is definitely the best casting line I’ve ever used similar to braid it doesn’t stretch and it doesn’t make that noise, good stuff.

Just spray the line with some Real  Magic or KVD line conditioner and it will go quiet.
