I forgot to mention, the Whopper Plopper is a great search bait. If something swirls on it but doesn’t commit, I generally throw a stick bait in the same area and have had great success catching something.

When I throw the WP, I have a wackyrig on Dec for the times they swipe or miss it.  I drop the rod and grab the wacky.  Works 9 out of 10 times

Are you fishing in the right areas of the lake? Just because it's nighttime, all the same rules for bass still apply: cover, structure, coves, points - all that good stuff. If you're not getting any action after a half hour or so I would suggest trying a different area.

I dont have a boat so I am stuck to bank fishing on the rivers and reservoirs. The main times I can fish are in my backyard at the neighborhhod retention ponds. They are about 5 acres and the smallest bass ive caught was 3#. Biggest was probably 5#. Ive only caught them finesse fishing (ned-dropshot-whacky-ewg). I can usually catch one within 10 minutes. Some will say this is cheating, but when you have 4 kids you got to do what you got to do.

I haven't found that one retrieve works any better than another. Sometimes they blow up on it when I pop the lure after it lands, sometimes a steady retrieve, and sometimes stop and pop. Sometimes they follow it in and sometimes they crush it right away.

When it's hot out (90+) they never hit it. But once the weather is in the mid 80's or lower they crush it.

I find this last statement to be spot on..

@Mikeltee Not afraid to admit I’m right there with you. My WP is 2 years old and I’ve committed dozens of hours to it with nothing to show. Ever.

My weird dragonfly I got as a joke for my son has caught 4-5 in that time just dorking around at random times. Maybe a total of 4 hours in 2 years.
