Texan89 Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Hey guys and gals, 99% of the time you hear people talking about drop shot fishing they are talking about bronze backs in clear northern water. I have a 7’ BC rod that I want to turn into a jerkbait and drop shot rod. What kind of success could I expect in stained and murky water fishing for LMB and crappie? Quote
Troy85 Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 I’ve had success in SE LA drop shotting for LMB and I caught PB bream dropshotting. I only use it if water clarity is around 1.5’ Visibility or better. I’ve never used it in very muddy water as I’ve always seen it as more of a visual bait for bass. 2 Quote
FishDewd Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 You can use it in muddy water. I've caught all sorts of fish with basically 0 visibility with DS. Key is PATIENCE. You can use live bait or plastics if you want to go for bass. I've had luck using small finesse worms or something else with a scent to it. Helps if you know where the fish ate holding too. 1 Quote
CroakHunter Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Youd be surprised at how good a drop shot lizzard is at night during and after the spawn. 2 Quote
Texan89 Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 Thanks for the info. 3 hours ago, FishDewd said: Helps if you know where the fish ate holding too. Mainly I’ll reserve the DS for fishing on or around crappie brush piles. Quote

LxVE Bassin Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 I placed 3rd in a tournament drop shotting in stained water. Caught LMBs and small mouths. Go for it! 1 Quote
