Birdman2136 Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 I'm looking to add a specific rod for finesse jigs. Currently I've been using 1/4 and 5/16 size jigs on a medium rod, I think I need a little more backbone for this type of fishing than what I'm getting from the rod I have. If anyone could recommend a rod for me around 100 dollars I would greatly appreciate it. TIA! Quote
Todd2 Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Academy had several in clearance at my local store yesterday. Looked like new models were in. I'm an Allstar fan, but honest it's a preference thing. Head in there( or somewhere else) and feel a few of them to find the one that you'll be happy with. Quote
CroakHunter Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Just picked up a 7' medium heavy duckett micro magic from American legacy fishing for $120. Usually a $150 rod. Very good with 1/4 ounce up to 3/8 ounce jigs 1 Quote

Anyway nice buy and a good deal. ?? Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 A Med. power rod with a fast tip would be my choice. I use one for hair jigs and shakey heads in the 3/16-1/4oz. Range. 2 Quote

You may not need the backbone you allude to. I find a med power rod, or as likely, spinning rod better for finesse jigs, mainly because I value accuracy more than power. I can get a hookset and quick head turn with the fast tip. Additionally, if I'm going to be jigging heavy cover, I'm probably not throwing finesse jigs. Quote
J.Vincent Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 Right now I use a Medium Power Fast action Abu Garcia Veritas Spinning rod for this type of lure. The Veritas in Medium power does a great job, but in all actuality the Medium power Veritas is somewhere between a Medium and a Medium Heavy. Also it's value and performance are very good at the $100 price point. Quote
