Tired of waiting with you.  I'm going fishing.  Helping a customer of mine set up a new outfit (not Quantum).

Their higher end gear is good. Lower end stuff is junk. I have a couple of 15 year old PTs that I still fish regularly.

I fish a bunch of Quantum Rods & Reels and have been for a really long time.

They are just terrible, I mean they could not possibly be any worse.

Nuts & bolts falling off all over the place.

Springs popping out left & right.

Rod Guides melting in the sun.

Backlashes Every Single Cast.

Foam Grips Bursting into flames.

It's a mess !

And yet, I still manage to catch a few.

LOL - They have made a couple reels I really liked, and they have made some pieces of junk I couldn't stand. The problem is, they (good and bad) were often in the same basic line of reels, not high price/low price. Quality control must have been a big issue in the past. Maybe they've resolved it by now, but my share of their reels is at a minimum because of those past issues. Maybe A-Jay is on the Quantum "A-Team" along with KVD and doesn't get "off the shelf" stock models ;)  ...jk

Just so you know, @A-Jay is the ONLY guy...other than that

guy, what's his name...K..V..something or other Damm, that

uses the gear.

But they're the outliers. Just remember that. :D

@A-Jay that wide angle lens makes em look big!

IDK about their reels but their, 7' 10" heavy extra fast Vapor is an awesome punch rod!

I have an energy PT on a KVD signature series rod and I've never had and nuts, bolts, or springs fall off and it has certainly never burst into flames.  But, I don't catch fish as big as A-Jay does, so maybe I haven't stressed it hard enough.  No complaints here.  I'm not running out to get another one but if I found a deal on one I wouldn't be afraid of owning another.

I've never owned a Quantum bait caster, but I've been using nothing but Quantum spinning reels for many years. I've been using them since before I knew who KVD was. In the last 10 years, they've all been Energy's and Smoke models. The only issues I've had are on the reels I use for jerkbaiting where the anti-reverse clutches take a lot of abuse. I've replaced a couple of clutches. I'm sure, unless they make a lot of changes I'm not happy with, my next spinning reels will be Quantum's too.

Every brand has it challenges.

From quality control to customer service, from to durability to reliability.

Been reading threads & posts about the good & bad for just about every rod & reel make & model here now for over 10 years.  No ones immune.

I do not believe that Quantum gear is "The Best".

However for what I pay & for what I get - it works for me.

I have & fish gear from several other makers as well.

Most of which is pretty good too.

I am not sure who owns who anymore but at one Brunswick owned Zebco who owned Quantum and sold to Bradley Realestate Corp. Is KVD still sponsored by Quantum? My 1st reel was a Langley 330 Lure Cast, Zebco bought Langley so it's a stretch but I may have owned a Quantum depending on who owns who?

Almost forgot about my Cardinal 4 rear drag spinning made in Sweden when Zebco own that brand.

WC Bradley Co. owns Quantum. They also own Van Staal, Fin Nor, Zebco, Quantum, etc. WC Bradley is based in my hometown. I truly believe there marketing is just subpar as they manufacturer some good quality products. I would buy Quantum products before I would buy a couple other more prominent brands products.

The original PT rods were awesome, I own one and like it. I think they make fine gear.

I remember back around 2000 they were one of the big boys and sponsored many pros. Seemed like they marketed a lot more then and had more visually attractive products.

The first energy PT reel was $160 and bulletproof. For years that’s all I fished

I had the older energy PT spinning and a energy PT casting reels, both looked awesome but fell apart after a year of fishing.  Quantum at the time seemed one of the great marketing and innovative companies in the fishing world.  After their quality issues started to become known, they just sorted fell out of the mainstream market.  All of the ones I had ended up in the dumpster.  It was a shame, they were pretty cool.

Quantum pt reels are great. Exo’s are my favorite. Tour mg is awesome too. They are my go to reels. Among many steez, chronarch, 13 ***&kp, Lews bb1 pros. Sv reels past and present. Exos out performs them all for me. Ymmv

I have a KVD cranking rod that is really nice. Only other Quantum I own is the older Energy PT spinning reel like FishTank posted above that I bought for my wife to match the holographic guides on her Avid Pearl spinning rod. She really likes it and it's still functioning well, but it gets used maybe a half dozen times a year. I had one of the blue Tour Edition PT baitcasters, but the big, mean Mexican bass I bought it to catch killed the thing after 2 or 3 days.

I think the lack of marketing combined with past QC issues has made things difficult for them.

I rep for Quantum but don't comment here because of the site rules.  I use a lot of the Smoke series rods and reels both baitcasters and spinning.  I have had -0- problems with them.  I have had some complaints on the KVD cranking rods, nothing a little epoxy didn't fix though.

Agree it’s their marketing. They can’t expect kvd to do all the selling or Gerald swindle for that matter, they need a different approach.

I bought a Quantum Smoke S3 this spring.  It was the first Quantum I ever had.  I bought a second one a week later.  It switches off as my favorite between that and another brand depending on my mood.....lol

I am a big supporter of quantum products, here in the GTA most shops focus on shimano I find. Not many shops big or small carry much quantum products. One or two models that's about it. I've had 7 smoke reels gen 1, 2 and 3 and 4 gen 2 energy reels and loved them all. I'm excited for the new energy reels to come out! I really do wish they had better marketing. Just kinda feels like they want the pros to do everything for then. Also great customer service!!!
